This band was EPICCCC...2 feet just south of me just from today's snow. I took this video on the northern fringes of the band so the snowfall rates weren't the same. Literally within a few miles you go from 5-6 inches at my house to 2-3 feet 5-6 miles south of me. Lake Effect Snow will continue for next 2 days. Snow totals will be from 4-6 feet across areas south of Buffalo and on the Tug Hill Plateau.

1°/-7° here right now.

Yikes... -14° Cyclone! -7° forecasted here.

-11 on the p&c here.

I do have to admit that it is fun to have things to track (even busts), cold air to play with, and occasional light snows to freshen things up. Looks and feels like winter, and after last years debacle, I am not taking anything for granted. Didn't see this much snow on the ground until late January last year.

LES is really pounding here.

attachicon.gifLES.jpg

Seems really far away from the lakes and its not a complete band, I saw that last night over south of Highway 402 and Sarnia. Where is the moisture coming from? Its terrain influenced?

Impressive lake effect snow continues across Ontario today. Actually getting in on the action IMBY, which is a bit more rare due to Oakville's geographical location. Check out how long some of these bands are.

These are long but I've seen some insane one's in the last few years, one reached all the way to Ottawa or close to it. I thought it was impossible until I see it. The different variations of characteristics of these bands is one of my favorite parts of winter. Has the wind direction ever given LES from Lake Ontario to the golden horseshoe? Its extremely rare but I think I've heard of it happening once.

Would love to experience this band....

Very organized and thick bands are the most coveted and I rarely see them park for a good while over me, at least in the last 4 years  :( .

As a subforum, we are doing pretty well today. Way to go GLOVers.

Yep! :

Around south-western Grey county we got a foot of snow in the last 24 hours. It was heavy this morning. I'm becoming more impressed with this event however as it was showing just 1-3 cm per day for 6 days now its like 5-10 cm per day with possible bonus on top. Nothing wild yet so I'll hold on to the hope. I heard a reference to December 2000 and that's interesting because that is the snowiest month of all time for Hanover ON coming in around 183 cm for Dec  . That was the last time epic and I mean epic LES was occurring in my location. The records don't go back far however (1972) so likely there are far higher amounts in Dec that have occurred. All I want is a strong band to lock in once in a while like Orillia currently. Regardless, there is a 100% chance of a white Christmas unlike 2011 and I'm probably the only one here posting from an Ontario true snow-belt. Its likely not proper to not think of London ON as part of the snow-belt considering what they can get since some members here are from London.

Thanks for sharing! That looks exciting to experience.

4-6 feet in a couple days!

I read today that parts of the Keweenaw have received around 4 feet in the last 7 days.

No Problem. It's pretty weird the Upstate New York sub forum is pretty dead most the time. Even though we receive some of the largest snow totals out of anywhere in the country that have actual cities. I think I may begin to migrate over here since its much more active and fun to talk weather with ya'll. I mean Toronto and Ontario posters post here and there only an hour or two away from us. Were supposed to get another 1-2 feet tomorrow, me and a friend are going to go chasing and hopefully get some good video.

That's some good stuff...a 7 degree drop in an hour when you are already below zero. Wow.

You didn't manage any snow today in the LAF? We got an inch and a half over this way.

They're living up to their as the ice box of northeastern IL.

Didn't get anything worth mentioning.
