I am running on a nearly two year streak of no triple digit temps. Last one was October 2021. That may end next week.

Utterly spectacular lightning show tonight. Best one in years around here.

I must not be paying for this feature. I think I grandfathered into Pro Tier 1, not Tier 2 because I loathe subscriptions. I've had the app since 2015 I think. EDIT: Nevermind. I don't even have tier 1. Apparently there are two subscription levels now.

Nobody knew it was happening. It was a rare miss by MRX. No warning was issued.

Evidently there is a lot of tree damage at Fall Creek Falls state park.
-
I don't know about that. There has definitely been a lot of intense local flash flooding this summer, but all of the creeks and ponds around me are below normal levels. The MS river is also still really low. We would really need a more widespread precipitation event from a tropical system or two to bring about major flooding. Otherwise I suspect it will continue to be isolated to small areas that get dumped on. Like Union City yesterday or Greene County earlier this week. In other news, 1.20" in the gauge today. We really needed it. The ground soaked it up like a sponge.

Opposite story here. 2-4" forecast. Only 0.10" recorded. My grass is still crispy.

That MCS last night was super disappointing. Light breezes and 0.04" of rain. And this morning's rain appears to be on a trajectory to mostly miss as well.
-
And just like that the streak is over. 91.2 right now with a HI of 105. DP is soaring at 77.

June is officially a shutout for 90+ temps IMBY. Only hit 86 today thanks to the MCS. I wish I knew what the statistics were on something like that. I bet it's rarely if ever happened before this far south.

Still holding on here too. We hit 89.2. A well timed shower or two over the next few days could mean mid July for the first 90 degree day.

It has been hugely delayed in it's arrival. Still no 90 degree reading IMBY this year. That streak looks to come to an end on Thursday with a high of 94 predicted for KCHA. I typically run 2-4 degrees cooler. We almost made it to July 1 without seeing 90. I can't ever remember that happening before.

Backtracking to the freeze damage conversation, I moved into a newly constructed house last fall with new landscaping. Of the 10 shrubs that were planted, only 4 remain visibly alive. 2 others have very little foliage, and the remaining 4 appear quite dead. I have also seen totally dead magnolia trees around town. Not sure if that's related.

March 2023 Mid-Long Range Discussion thread
dwagner88 replied to Holston_River_Rambler's topic in Tennessee Valley
Hit 30 last night here but zero frost due to the wind. I'm thinking 26-27 tonight. Typical TN spring. Just enough awesome weather to get used to it, then the cold comes back again. -
I would be willing to bet that set a new record. That's a very high gust for an ASOS.

mPING snow reports are popping up from Signal and Lookout mountains this morning. It’s likely above freezing even up there though. 40 degrees at 1000’ elevation in Apison.

This road is in my area of responsibility for snow removal for TDOT. It's the first place I check during events for road conditions. We actually put forward facing dash cams in the plow assigned to that route so we can monitor remotely since there are no traffic cameras up there. I'm concerned about this area, and eastern Polk and McMinn counties. Could be a tree snapper in those areas. Also Lookout Mountain, which is around 2200'.

January 2009. We were predicted for rain. Rain quickly changed to snow. MRX was so behind the curve on the event that they actually issued a winter storm warning for every county in the CWA except Hamilton county. Despite the fact that Hamilton county already had 3-5" on the ground and the roads. I guess for me you can also count Feb 12 2014. We started as snow, got a couple of inches, changed to rain during the day, then changed back to snow and wound up with over 10". Downtown barely got anything with that one though.

All this warm weather has me considering a somewhat early application of pre-emergent on the yard. I just know if I do it, we will wind up with a bitterly cold March.

Jan 31 - Feb 1 Ice Possibilities
dwagner88 replied to Holston_River_Rambler's topic in Tennessee Valley
High pressure over the SE coast. We had the same thing happen in 2021 when Memphis and Nashville got hammered with 2 weeks of subfreezing temps and snow/ice. It was 66 in Chattanooga during parts of that event and 14 in Memphis. This isn't quite that extreme, but there is basically zero chance of any icing in the eastern TN valley from this. -

I saw a single flake of dandruff this morning while walking the dogs. Guess I can't complain too much about that given how stark this winter has been so far.- 923 replies

I drove over the Skyway from Robbinsville to Tellico Plains yesterday. Easily a foot of accumulation above 5000'. I couldn't get into any of the pulloffs without getting stuck, but the highway was clear. We descended to around 4300' and got to play in 6-8" of snow at that elevation.

Just had a long hot tub session in the snow. I’m renting a cabin in Ellijay, GA this weekend. Wish I had sprung for Gatlinburg instead, but this is still nice. Solid dusting here.

Historic Christmas Cold & maybe snow?! Dec 23rd-30th
dwagner88 replied to Wurbus's topic in Tennessee Valley
Low of 6 high of 10 here. That’s the lowest daytime high temp I recall in my lifetime here. The CAA was apparent and strong. When the winds died down the temp would creep up towards 10, and when it picked back up it would drop back down to 7-8.
