According to the wundermap it’s 64 here and 34 on Monteagle. That’s a 30 degree difference over about 40 miles.

I was happy to miss this one. It was 33-34 with rain the entire time here. Then we got a beautiful miller A with 8-10" of snow area wide right after.

January 28th-29th Clippers/NW Flow Obs/Last Minute Forecasts.

There is a very heavy slug of moisture that is going to lay down some accumulation just south of Chattanooga across Ne Alabama and NW Georgia. What a miserable winter this has been. -

I’m seeing plenty of areas with white grass on the TDOT cameras around town. Unfortunately I don’t live in one of those areas. Bone dry here. -

I’ve already decided I’m retiring to Wise, VA or Roan Mountain. 22 years to go per my plan though. -

We had a 10 minute moderate snow shower with temps in the mid thirties. All gone now. Even that is overperforming for NW flow here though. -
Saw a post in the NC mountains thread in the SE forum. 15” at the top.
-
A friend on White Oak Mtn measured 5”. They’ve had heavy snow all day at about 1400’.
-
Not really. Flow is from almost due north. What you see isn’t a traditional dry slot, just a lull between convection. We should still get another shot or two of moderate snow this evening before it winds down. Once the flow switches to the NW it will stop snowing in the valley.

Dusting is official here now. I’ve finally dropped to 32 degrees for the first time in this event. There is a wreck on I-75 NB at white oak mountain. It is blocking our plows from getting to the gap at the county line. As a result the interstate is quickly becoming snow covered in that area.
-
I guess patience pays off. Moderate snow now, no rain. What a crazy storm. Our mountain roads are getting bad on Signal and Mowbray.
-
Maybe 50/50 RA/SN right now.
-
I’m only about 4-5 miles from Ooltewah and getting 100% rain right now.
-
Looks like I had around 0.70” fall as snow and fail to accumulate. I would not have thought that possible. I’m definitely hugging the NBM model from now on. It destroyed the globals for this event. Area mountains have 2-4”. More disappointment for the valley.
-
Just drive up the mountain. Still ripping on Signal right now.
-
I’m on signal now. Primary roads are fine. Just slushy. I saw several cars stranded on secondaries. The snow didn’t start until I got to the very top of the mountain. It’s almost like warm air has been dammed up against the edge of the plateau. It’s much colder along I-75 eastward regardless of elevation.
-
Starting to stick in the grass in East Brainerd.
-
Really dumping up here on 111 now. If this stays snow all afternoon this area is going to get plastered.
-
I drove up 111 to the sequatchie line. Snow/sleet mix up here. Starting to whiten the ground and slush the road a bit. 2000’ is the cutoff. All rain below that right now.
-
Temperature is finally starting to drop here. Down to 37.
-
Sleet reported on MPING in Dalton. Looks like something wintry will be falling here soon. Probably going to be a rain/sleet mix.
-
CC line is still racing this direction. It’s reached the AL/GA line. Sounds like Huntsville has changed over. That’s always been one of my canaries in the coal mine. We can definitely still miss out when they get hit (it’s already happened this year), but it’s a decent indication of things to come.
-
39 here still. Not confident about anything.

I think that poster is referring to Feb 2014, not the January 2014 traffic Armageddon. February 2014 wasn’t too different from this. The I-59 and I-75 corridors got rocked. Even had some thundersnow.
