  1. Past hour
  2. Went down to humarock in scituate earlier for a friends party and my god that lightning was incredible. We had a few close strikes right by the beach and people were still lighting off fireworks lol. Ya gotta respect the dedication, despite the insanity!

  4. 10pm is way past your bed time. Come back fresh tomorrow…
  5. Today
  6. The family and I spent the day enjoying the 70 degree water at Holland State Park today. Normally don't see that until later in July.
  7. What the heck happened to the entire first floor of that second picture.
  8. I bet the roots of that tree were cut on the sidewalk side, because it was lifting the sidewalk up, then the sidewalk repaired. I am saying this because we do not see the sidewalk lifted up by the tree falling. When I was a kid we had the problem where the town cut the roots on the curb side. Hurricane Belle blew thru, and the tree fell away from the street as a result of the weakened root structure.
  9. 2022/2025 had similar monsoon patterns in old Mexico with giant fetches of moisture running up into the Southwest. We've actually been quite wet since late April. 2mm x 30 = 60 mm above average, that's over 2 inches wetter than average for much of Mexico, in the wet season. A lot of decent snowfall years for the West seem to follow these wetter Junes in Mexico. June 2025 looks like the opposite of the Junes preceding the five best snow years in Philadelphia since 1985. I don't see super favorable outcomes for subtropical moisture feeding nor'easters this winter but we'll see. Sort of expecting a weird winter here - warm but pretty wet. Canadian shows a -PDO neutral those can be pretty good or terrible here - but they're often highly erratic. Not a PDO thing -
  10. Did you see the video of the dude shoveling hail in Foster?
  11. We were playing the 8th and teeing off on the 9th when we heard the first thunder. We hustled to finish and got done just before the horn blew calling people off the course.
  12. 56/53 here with a little breeze. Windows and doors wide open and almost feels chilly.
  13. Wind chills on KMWN tonight will be in the 15-25 range and likely staying below freezing through the 4th. Not unusual for them, but cool. And always a threat to the unprepared hikers that frequent that area. A few weeks back there were several rescues due to similar conditions combined with unprepared hikers.
  14. Several years ago Shewchuck told me that he has testified in court as meteorological expert using only raw data because his worldview is that you should never apply corrections to fix biases, errors, and/or mistakes. When I asked if he discloses to the court that the data may contain biases, errors, and/or mistakes the conversation ended immediately and he ghosted me. I think at some level contrarians have to know that what they are arguing for is at best unethical and potentially fraudulent with criminal consequences at worst. It makes it even that more baffling that they continue down this line of argument while simultaneously gaslighting the rest of us as if we're in the wrong.
  15. Absolutely beautiful day yesterday and today. Loving the lower dewpoints.
  16. Over their mutual overlap period from 2005/01 to 2025/05... +0.65 F.decade-1 is the warming trend using nClimDiv (formerly USHCN). +0.77 F-decade-1 is the warming trend using USCRN. Considering that nClimDiv should have a more significant UHI component than that of USCRN it would not be unreasonable to hypothesize that it is underestimating the warming in the United States more than the trivial difference would already imply. I'll also remind readers here of what the net effect of all adjustments at the global level. [Hausfather 2017]
  17. Very impressive hail signature in NE CT earlier. Not surprised by the 1.75" hail reports. Tons of wind damage across the state.
  18. Yeah it's going to be memorable, hopefully #1 but top 5 works!
  19. Nice day at Dewey including a low pass by a C 17, a shark sighting along the surf, and Dewey beer’s new island retreat stout, which is fabulous.
  20. My house after Sandy, one of my neighbor's houses after Sandy...
