EPS is pretty cold long range.

Before there were all of these beautiful weather maps, we used to simply use 500 Geopotential height maps. I don't even think we had anomalies when all of this was first on the internet. I just used NOGAPS(US NAVY) and eyeballed it. I can say...this is a pretty good look on the EPS. And isn't bad for several days prior to or after this screenshot - it looks even better after this. But when you are looking for winter storms at our latitude, this is what you look for. So, we have moved on from tracking a ridge flipping back West to actually tracking timeframes during a window which looks good.

Weather underground has 1-3” tonight and 3-5” tomorrow night pretty bullish but I’m thinking more 3-5” total but we will see where the Mesos take us here at 18 and 0z

What’s your low there so far? SLK can put up -25F or colder several nights in a month during some good cold outbreaks. Plus those cold air advection days where it’s near 0F for a high.

Shoot, I would just take a good old-fashioned rainstorm at this point. Last January was brutally dry and this January is starting out the same way unfortunately.

Beautiful bluebird day at Mammoth right now. The stoke is very high as skiers slash that fresh pow! There is an insane amount of snow all around the Mammoth at Woolly Lot, and also on the Summit! Thanks Chinook for the link to the paper. As I recall it took some time to break out of that pattern that became entrenched in 1976-77.

Pretty nice setup. Ridge gets a little sliced off in BC but this is just round one…ridge then rebuilds a little further west and we’d have several more shots in the following 5-10 days with that longwave look. Hopefully we can cash in….but for D10 and beyond, this is all we can ask for at the moment.

No but I haven’t moved in 30 minutes so I was bored… it’s now snowing light/moderate tho .
