Possible Record Breaking Cold + Snow Sunday 1/25 - Tuesday 1/27

Got timed out on the other forum and not even sure why. Saw your post about this on it and wanted to respond. This should calm some nerves right now as the floor may already be high. The thump is legit -
because the low isn't particularly strong what so ever, but the high pressure is very potent. The low pressure though a big system isn't strong to push that arctic dome of air out in time, by the time it does the low pressure is outta here that's why it doesn't become a true coastal. To me as it stands and of course that could change is a tone of overrunning with really high ratios because you've got a tone of moisture running into a brick wall, and once it saturated it will snow like crazy and the rates could be potentially even 20:1! It won't particularly be windy either with temperatures way below freezing, it will stick and be very sandy snow. Look for the smallest sized flakes come Sunday and Sunday night, as the low moves out offshore, the flakes could become bigger and the ratios will actually fall!

The worst thing about this, the super Euro rug pull on me a few years ago, everything trended very far east over the last 48 hours. I was modeled to get 30 inches on a Euro run and ended up on the west edge of precipitation. I think Tri got 10 inches from it. And of course all the crazy suppressed runs on the gulf last year looked impossible, but it actually moved South and East until go time. Basically whatever we need to happen, just assume the opposite will here and it'll mix or miss.

Calls have been coming in for a few days from electric utilities to top off massive diesel tanks. Large facilities in the VA/MD/DC area are preparing for "curtailment" (when they get their gas supply cut off and have to switch to diesel). From an energy supply stand point, the grid is expected to be quite overloaded. We're all watching your discussions VERY closely and doing our best to prepare and keep your lights on... These threads have been WILDLY helpful. THANK YOU!

2025-2026 New England Snow Recordkeeping Thread
backedgeapproaching replied to bristolri_wx's topic in New England
Yea, has not been a great pattern so far for the lower CT river valley in VT. Mostly W/NW flow with the Greens blocking most of the precip or downsloping into your area. It hasn't been epic on this side of the mountains, but alot of 1-2" events seemingly every third day add up over time. Think Im in the 60-65" range so far last I looked. -

Heck if I know, lol. I pay for these silly subscriptions so might as well use 'em for something and try to learn something new each year. As much a pay sites would like us to think that a subscription to get the highlights of the WeatherAIgoobldygookGPT JMG Buttersworth snow ratio meteogram charts will automatically = snow, it doesn't. Stakes are high on this one for me. This will probably be my biggest model rug pull, so might as well follow it when I can, or at least until the ice turns off my power, lol. -

With all of that said, the run to run changes in the upper levels on the euro are rather mind boggling, not discounting it, but saying it’s dialed in would be a lie as well.

Ironically, the cut-off low that is being sampled is likely not the most uncertain piece of the puzzle.
