That’s the point where my memory block kicks in lol. I’m a glass half-full guy so I prefer to look forward to the late Jan 2011 event redux.

Awww congrats to the whole family! December birthdays are fun, and on a snowy day too!

Baby Terpeast was born this morning, and both he and Miss Terpeast are doing well. Thanks for all the support and kind words (and the laughs from all these shoe jokes). And there was about 1.5” on the ground when I had a chance to go outside and get our stuff for the overnight hospital stays. Which is the same as the local Ashburn report for LWX. Looked like a real winter wonderland outside the 4th floor window. Today was a great day!

Does that mean you also expect a “one that got away” 12”+ snow event that eventually gets evaporated on guidance?
-
Well, let me inject some reality into this space. Social media brain rot dude. It runs as strong in this forum as any forum I've ever been a member of. If you don't live in people's delusions and false realities, you get frowny face stickers and temper tantrums, just like in preschool. Social media and the people that use it are becoming extremely hard to tolerate both on the internet and in the real world. True, working class people with good families, homes and jobs don't have time for such a silly and juvenile wastes of time. Every day its more increasingly obvious who's spending too much time on social media and what it's done to them over the course of the last ten to fifteen years. They live every day in fear of the next and bad mouth, anybody who doesn't partake in their delusions, realities or belief systems. It may be going seemingly unnoticed here, but in the real world, people are becoming increasingly fatigue of this kind of behavior for very good reason.

The Return of the 12/5 Snowstorm

It def did seem like fluff -
Possibly but if its coming in after 3 pm as the snow is getting lower, thermals may not be bad. Also, what will be the temperature up in the clouds. Surface temps may be above freezing but the ground is so cold anything is gonna stick right now.

Same here in Tamaqua. Pixie dust light snow that is starting to coat everything a bit. Even untreated areas of the roads (shoulders, etc). -

Amazing overnight/early am lows so early in the season. Can’t imagine it makes for good snowmaking though. Always love the photos, so keep em coming.

@eyewall that was definitely worth the trek. Beautiful snow. I looked at radar this morning and was happy for you

That was the month of a lifetime for CT. I'm glad I was 19 and studying meteorology. Great timing to enjoy it especially after the frustration of freshman year's winter. -
My itch to ski again is growing. Been over a decade since I’ve done downhill, not really prepared to right now but want to keep that itch going and growing. Biggest hurdles are ticket prices and gear, both of which are not in budget.

Got a dusting today in Westminster, patiently waiting for one that gets us decent up here. I don’t think I’ve seen a winter storm warning verify in years? It’ll be nice when we get hit . -
When I was guessing what kind of winter to expect, to make a forecast in the seasonal snow contest, I leaned on a blend of 2010-11 and 2000-01. Dec 2010 had a lot of clippers that snowed on SWVA, S WV, and the Smokies of NC. I think Roanoke had at least 3 accumulating events that month, including one on Christmas. A pattern that left my part of WV cold and dry.

The above numbers have been finalized with no change, and to them is added 0.8 inches at BWI. The below table reflects no changes to the leaderboard, but does show negative departures at both DCA and RIC for current leader @LittleVillageWx and a negative departure at RIC for current runner-up @JenkinsJinkies

Agree. As noted by a poster in another forum(maybe ENSO on the main page), this is a pattern which is often hard to break down, i.e. cold over the Hudson Bay, a small ridge over the Southwest, and kind of a flat, stable trough in the East. That Alaska feed into the SE is a classic old-school pattern. I know we've talked about it before. It seems like modeling has shown this in the past only for it not to verify. This time it is in place. That is a cold, cold feed at times.
