To be fair those cold summers were godawful too. I particularly remember the Pinatubo summer of 1992. I was in the Poconos that summer too and it was in the 40s here in late June and raining all the time. I remember 1996 differently since I was on Long Island most of that summer it was extremely humid even though not hot and that made it much worse than if it were hot and less humid. I actually remember blacking out one day in June 1996 when it was overcast 82 degrees with a dew point of 82 100% humidity. My most hated kind of weather.

Looks like KLWX is offline? I keep hearing thunder but I don't know where it's coming from, maybe if that cell over Charles co holds together we can eek out something.

Registered 2000 lightening strikes within 25 miles of the house here in the last 45 minutes. This storm is certainly electric!

Today was godawful. Low to mid 60s windy with rain and ugly dark skies all day. This weather belongs in October not August. How much do we need to accelerate climate change to make sure today's weather never happens in summer ever again?

I'd start Brandon Young in a 3 game series. If the pitching holds up and Basallo and Blaze pick up where they left off, O's could heat up at just the right time

I was hoping low-level mesos from the shear could compensate here. Dir shear sfc-850 is excellent.

I was just coming to post that…definitely one of the best storms here in quite some time. Lightning and thunder were incredible. 0.65” on my gauge and it’s wrapping up.

Maybe we can do ok overnight. The WV MCS looks solid. Nocturnal sometimes makes a sig difference, at least for big rains.

2026 Mid-Atlantic Severe Storm General Discussion
dailylurker replied to Kmlwx's topic in Mid Atlantic
Clouds all day and storms coming from the due west pretty much always end this way. Heavy rain events come from the SE and south, not west. My gut was right today. This summer has been such a tease with all the watches and warnings.- 1,980 replies

2026 Spring/Summer Mountain Thread
Maggie Valley Steve replied to Buckethead's topic in Southeastern States
No rain today here at the house, but chances look better tomorrow. I'm starting to see signs of the Eastern trough becoming active again through the end of Meteorological Summer. Fronts and lower dew points are looking pretty good to end the Month. -
Ended with 1.37 inches of rain throughout today. Watching an epic light show to the southeast of me from my deck. One of the best I’ve seen in years.
-
Impressive how often there has been heavy rain wording in the AFDs with inch+ amounts in the forecast that literally yield nothing. All summer long. They must be just using AI or guessing because the globals are awful with resolving convection(not their forte) and all the mesos suck and are always all over the place. Today is a classic example. Need better hi-res models I guess. When they all depict different outcomes run to run something isn't working right. Too many forecast busts tell the story.
