  1. Past hour
  2. Lots of thunder from those cells over middlesex/union counties
  3. Some may find this Univ. of Michigan study interesting... "...We don't see a time in the past where El Niños have been as strong as today, and we show that the strength of El Niño changes in parallel with warming global temperatures,..." https://phys.org/news/2026-08-el-nios-intense-years-previous.html "..This event is superimposed on global warming, and it's likely to supercharge the temperature increase that we would normally see from greenhouse gases. There are forecasts that we might get as hot as 1.7 or 1.8 degrees Celsius above preindustrial temperatures, which is quite a bit higher than the current record..." I've been saying this myself ... the super position of the +ENSO with CC is likely to cause synergistic results - they're naming temperatures. But, it's more broadly implicating then just temperature; put another way, makes us all prone to experiencing unusual event.
  4. Didn't realize that it was so warm! All El Nino minus all La Nina analogs for August before this year
  5. Severe Thunderstorm Watch is up west of Bay until 10.
  6. July and August near records for US warmth. Completely different from El Nino analogs, which are typically cool. All El Nino minus all La Nina analogs for August before this year
  7. took less them 10 minutes for that too pop thats why these type of storms are dangerous especially if you are walking outside and have no place to take shelter quick as these are capable of CTG lightning which we have experienced today already
  8. 2 inches of rain fell here at home today.
  9. 15-16 had a monster N. Pacific trough That 14-16 was a +PDO spike really gives some weight to the pdo correlation numbers.
  10. Drove through the hardest rain in a long time. Had hail on parkway in holmdel, lots of flooding in spots. Tons of ctg lightning. Cleared up in Woodbridge. Is getting extremely dark again to my south now that I'm back home.
  11. Same here. I think the I95 folks haven't been as lucky, or unlucky, depending on whether you like to mow grass <which I do not!>
  12. Thundering here for past hour or two, only .10 inch of rain.
  13. A pretty good cell popped up pretty much right on top of me. Heavy downpour but lasted only a few minutes. Looks like we'll see more later with stuff developing to the southwest as you said.
  14. Watch up until 10pm URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 632 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 315 PM EDT Thu Aug 27 2026 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of District Of Columbia Central Maryland Central Pennsylvania Northern Virginia Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia Coastal Waters * Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 315 PM until 1000 PM EDT. * Primary threats include... Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible A tornado or two possible SUMMARY...Thunderstorm coverage and intensity is expected to increase across the region this afternoon as a shortwave trough and attendant cold front approach from the west. Warm and moist conditions have fostered strong buoyancy across the region while increasing mid-level flow contributes to strengthening deep-layer vertical shear. These environmental conditions support the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, with damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail as the primary risks. A low-probability risk for a brief tornado or two exists as well.
  15. storms are beginning to develop over central and north jersey and points to the southwest moving northeast
  16. Actually, I'm with you. I get Chuck's position as he's expressed his concern several times over the the main Enso thread. But I just think it's a little early to be concerned about it. We need to see how the Niño develops and when it starts to fade, then we can worry...and with the best of them too! Lol
  17. models have showed little here and so far they're right. it's cloudy and 73 so not expecting much later
  18. Continuing the shift away from fossil fuels and deforestation are easy steps. Installing rooftop solar is something each of us can do. Leasing an electric car. We can all do our part. Sure, no single person can change it themselves, just like no single soldier can win a war.
  19. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene... In honor of Dolly
  20. I hope the melting snow won’t flood the America river too badly. Which one? They are all named that now.
  21. sun is getting brighter each year so that's a tough one
