I did soil sampling for my Internship with USDA and know exactly what you mean. Mid August is no joke near the coast for high 90s over upper 70s in corn fields 8 foot tall. Lol I did get lost for an hour in a 100 acre field once. Came out as sticky as cotton candy from the heat and corn.

Droughts are a normal part of our climate and a healthy way to get rid of excessive vegetation. Droughts normally happen in the summer and sometimes the fall and really aren't anything to be alarmed about. During the 90s I used to water for about 4 hours every other day after I got home from work and found it quite enjoyable and relaxing. Sometimes I just turned the water on and went inside and enjoyed watching the rainbows created by it. Summer is the time to be outside when most people dont want rain unless it's in brief 20 to 30 minute spurts with sunshine 90 percent of the time. We have the other 3 seasons to have rain and cloudy weather lol. I look at 1983 as an example of the kind of year that had everything and would probably make most people happy: a 20 inch snowstorm in February, another snow event in April, a hot and dry record setting summer with 100 in July and August and a 99 in September and then back to heavy rain for the Fall. A year with 80 inches of rain but no more than 2 inches in any of the summer months. The reason why summers are supposed to be dry is because we get the vast majority of our rainfall from coastal storms which dont happen in the summer or aren't supposrd to happen anyway (and neither are cutoffs). The abnormal and excessive rainfall we've had recently has polluted our reservoirs so we're getting water restrictions here from too much rainfall. That's in addition to toxic algae blooms caused by farm fertilizer and pesticide run off so people and pets can't go near the water at all. But this is a result of an extreme and historic el Nino and by next summer I'm pretty sure we'll be back to hot and dry in the summer like what's happened in the past when a strong el Nino ends-- 1966, 1983, 1999, 2010, etc.
