NWS anll over screwed up this system.

We met friends at the national zoo and Sterling had heavy rain and showers all day. Not a drop and sunny there.

Here we were supposed to get heavy rain overnight.  .05” total for me the last two days. It’s drier than dry.

Same amount of rain here. Forecast was for significantly more than that.

It was a complex setup but they all whiffed. Kinda unusual.
The top soil layer is bone dry. We can usually add a bunch of moisture to systems like this, but not right now and for a long while. Any and all moisture we can use has to brought in right now and these systems won't cut it

I was just thinking to myself about the corn crop. The fields aren't going to look the same after next week.  I'm going to go out on a limband say that Pennsylvania agriculture is looking down the barrel of a season, that could end up more disastrous. than 1930 or 1999 by a long shot.
I thought 1999 was the gold standard for bad recent droughts over the summer. Anyways that yearr keeps popping up in any kind of analysis I run

CTP has HBG’s high Thursday 103 and Friday 101.

Add in what might be 65-75% humidity and that is legit health issue stuff.

103 would place us in the top 10 hottest days on record if we get to that point. It's very rare for the Harrisburg area to get over 103 degrees except for 3 days that were 104 and one day 107. Very impressive stuff.

If I remember correctly, we do have someone  here that was also at Griffiths air force base in Rome, New York, July 22 to 25 1999. That's as hot is i've ever been and probably ever will be. At this age my body would not be able to tolerate what we had to endure at that festival. 110°F+ on that endless tarmac from hell with almost no shade or working bathrooms for 4 days and hot nights. Looking back at it as an older adult, all the organizers for that festival  should have been imprisoned. Water and food was nearly impossible to find, and the price for a bottle of water was over $13.00 and $15.00+ for a hot dog or a slice of pizza by day 3. It was a four day event during a heat wave that no one was allowed to bring food or drinks through . 669fc9abbe331.image.jpg.28b3f61d387fbb9b05b2656d2314d602.jpg

I’ve not had 2” rain in 3 months.

Idk why the rain has been like this. Some places get decent rain and other places hardy get any. I'm about 30 miles away from you as the crow flies. And the amount of rain you received compared to me is stunning. Hopefully soon you and others will cash in on decent rain.

63 degrees this morning with yesterday’s high of 75 degrees.

We picked up .20” of rain yesterday. It’s been kind of hit and miss. Sometimes just getting skirted by the bulk of the storm. But at lest picking up some rain.

Looks like Tuesday we see our start of the heat. Then 3 days of close to 100.

Looks like the AC will be getting a good workout. Probably just stay inside them 3 days.

.CLIMATE...
Triple digit max temps are forecast in the Lower Susq Valley
(LSV) on Thursday and Friday bookended by upper 90s Wednesday
and Saturday.

The last time Harrisburg observed consecutive days with maxT
greater than or equal to 100F was back in 2011 on July 21-22.

The record number of consecutive days with maxT >= 100F is 3
and has occurred 5 times: (all in the month of July)

1999-07-16 to 1999-07-18
1999-07-04 to 1999-07-06
1991-07-19 to 1991-07-21
1966-07-02 to 1966-07-04
1936-07-09 to 1936-07-11

The last time Harrisburg hit the century mark was July 16th in
2024. Prior to that, it was July 19th in 2020.

Harrisburg averages 1 day annually with a maxT >100F. The most
number of days observed in a year is 6 in 1999.

The lack of rain is very concerning.

Yesterday I only got near .10 of rain, which was disappointing. My lawn is drying out & getting crispy in some areas. This week’s extreme heat will certainly not help.

At least this heat wave is happening in the heart of Summer. In another 6 weeks, we will be able to begin to see our way out to Fall.

FRIDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values between
  105 and 110.

* WHERE...A portion of central Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Very warm low temperatures, mainly in the low
to mid 70s at night will not offer much relief from the heat. This
combined with multiple days of near record breaking temperatures
will amplify the impacts from the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and stay in an
air-conditioned room. Remember your pets and provide them with
plenty of water and shade if left outdoors.

Our extreme heat watch goes into effect starting on Wednesday. The next couple of days will be close to average for the end of June. Most spots should reach the low 90's starting on Wednesday with the peak hot days being both Thursday and Friday with highs in the upper 90's in most spots to near 100 in lower elevation valley locations. Storm chances increase a little on Independence Day and will help trim temperatures a little by the end of next weekend.

With a chance that some locations could see a 100-degree day later this week I went back and analyzed 30 temperature stations across the area to see just how rare such a day has become. A 100-degree day is a rare occurrence across most spots across the County. With the potential being even more rare across the relatively higher ridge stations above 595 ft. In fact the last time any ridge location station saw a 100-degree reading was 15 years ago back on July 22, 2011. Of the 18 current stations across the area that report temperatures 9 of these have never recorded such a day. Our lowest elevation stations at Phoenixville and nearby Spring City both recorded a 100+ day last June. To illustrate how different the temperature elevation impact can be on June 26, 2025 while Spring City (256 ft ASL) was hitting the century mark....not too far away at Glenmoore DEOS (620 FT ASL) but 400 feet higher the high was 10 degrees cooler at "only" 90.6
