When you're running the longest stretch of chilly high temps in over a hundred years it's a low bar to say the worst is likely over (after a few more cold days w/snow)

Yeah that was a brutal one. First week of the month I think ORH set 3 daily records. We had like a 10-12” frozen glacier. Then we finally torched mid month before the cold returned for the St Pattys day storm

In all seriousness, we all know that spring will get here eventually. I think the point is, some people are just tired of waiting for things to happen ( while waiting for things they want to happen ), I call it winter fatigue. There's more bullets in the chamber. And of course we're not going to get this bitterly Arctic cold again this winter, but winter's not over. You can lock that in

Sure, we haven’t broken all time records, but the consistent deep cold has been the big story for the area/SNE imo.

ORH has an outside chance of breaking their sub-32F streak too but they’d have to survive a marginal day or two later this week. Don’t think they will but still pretty impressive they have a shot at all. 
 

Kind of matches what we’ve all felt…it’s been very consistently solid cold even though the very high-end airmasses have been a little less than you’d expect out of a prolonged cold pattern.

Got it this morning (see below).  Bit of a random stat but pick any number and it seems impressive.

Yeah…a combo of sustained cold that’s devoid of warmth.

I wouldn't mind another March 1956. That was like a March version of February 2015. Even March 2018 for that matter. That was a great month. Started out with probably the most intense screamer in my life. I put it above October 2017 and 2021. Then just a week later we got a solid 10" snowstorm and then a few more minor events later that month. Just give us something interesting that's all I ask for.

Normally 2015 would’ve blown all this out of the water but we had one day in early February (wanna say 2/5) where we got a light snow event but it started  kind of warm. BOS snuck to like 37-38F and ORH got to 34F I remember vividly. Because otherwise I think ORH would’ve gone like 5-6 straight weeks below freezing from second half  January until late February that month.

First half of that winter(14-15) was warm/December Xmas was toucans.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the last week of Feb into the beginning of March features a very cold pattern..

That end of Jan AOB 19° streak for ORH was #2 going back to 1949. But I think this app uses hourly data and misses high temps between the hourlies.

I'm curious what the streak is here for sub 50°, I don't think it's been over 45° here since mid November, and that is just a handful of days above 40°, quite impressive cold winter, at least my driveway isn't a skating rink like last year tho.

 

edit: I just checked and appears 11/5 was 50.1°, last time it was 50+ here anyway.

Alright these charts use actuals highs and lows for the POR.

BOS streaks of 34 or less and ORH streaks of 31 or less.
