The Central Park cam at 72nd street you can see the plow go by and within 10 minutes its covered up

Yep, proof for all time that what happens at 750mb is irrelevant to the surface. SWFE are what they are.

Yes.  I think even LGA/JFK have some freezing rain like 01-04z maybe as things really lighten up

The coastal front is developing it seems. Places like the bronx and northern Manhattan stay frozen,mix briefly back to snow. East of that coastal front ice/rain.

You'll see a huge one in Brooklyn at some point.  Maybe even this winter.

Going as generally modeled, unfortunately the immediate Jersey coast is warming fast and likely to fiip to rain

Another reason I'd be surprised if it goes to all sleet even once mixing starts, I'm sure its possible but can't remember too many times at least near the coast when it's been in the teens and pure sustained sleet. Maybe valentines day 2007 but even that was probably in the 20s?

Surface temp has nothing to do with sleet

My temperature as the snow picked up in intensity went from 15.6 to 15.2. I guess this indicates the warm nose has not infiltrated my area yet.

Heaviest rates of the day now. Bands sort of moving in off the ocean almost. Temp stuck at 14.8

I know it doesn't and I've said that I'm just saying I haven't recalled many experiences where this dynamic has happened. So either I think maybe we warm into the 20s or the upper levels wont be as warm as modeled. I also realize this is not a normal storm by any means though.

They had heavy sleet in Arkansas last night at 3 degrees

Yea inland it happens a lot, when I lived in the HV i remember blasting sleet at 19 degrees, I just don't remember it happening often near the coast because rarely do you get that dramatic upper level vs surface divide near the ocean.

Snowing hard in Lindenhurst, its hard to estimate with the winds gusting 25-30 mph but have about 5-5.5" on the ground now was at 3 around 10:30 so some pretty good rates. Temp 15.6 F
