Lots of folks on here seemingly are in need of other hobbies. Pick something! It will help you fill the time. I'll be the first to admit that having snow chances fade is really disappointing.

In the past 2 months I've gone down the espresso/coffee rabbit hole. Trying a new latte/coffee drink recipe most mornings is a fun experience. Many of the folks on here are craft beer enthusiasts - indulge in that! I also plane spot where I get the chance, spend time with your pets/family/etc - do a big puzzle, grab a new video game.

There are countless ways you can get lost in something new to pass the time until a snow threat becomes apparent.

Or,...the less desirable option....if you work...lose yourself in the ho hum of the 9-5...

It doesn't make the sting of missed snow chances any less...but it helps pass the time until a new threat emerges.

And if you don't like hobbies, set aside 2 weekends during the winter and drive to canaan/deep creek/snowshoe when the conditions are good out there. Getting that "fix" usually helps a lot.

Sierran Cordillera is looking at yet another major winter storm tonight into Monday as at least four feet of additional pow will fall tonight and over the next few days. Ski Patrol needs to stay super sharp because as much as I hate avalanches, snow slide danger is going to become quite high, what with torrential snow accumulations and wind loading from banshee wind gusts especially at the crests. Snow cornices will be likely to develop with time and can easily break off and start unwanted snow slides that can come at the high cost of Ski Patrol personnel getting caught in them. They piled up 11 to 13 inches of additional pow last night, adding to the base snowpack.

Snow will begin tonight and become quite heavy, winds will blow it around and by tomorrow Jan 3 2026 the Mammoth Resort will become a milkshake froth once again. Additional storms will smash right into the Sierra over the coming days. They are gonnabe quite busy in all the ski resorts in January.

Three fresh inches of snow at Mammoth, and plow guy is already at it in the Woolly Lot. They are supposed to get 5 inches by sunrise there then 24 more inches piled on today Jan 3. That's just today's snow. Then even more tonight and Sunday, Sunday night and on into Monday, then even MOAR storms in the Pacific Set.

Pacific conveyor belt is piling on more moisture thru the Channel Islands NNE on into Mammoth, it's just one long moisture-laden conveyor. Moisture is being smashed against the Sierras then thrust upward 11000 feet then condenses into moar and moar heavy snow that will pile on all weekend on into Monday.

Heavy snow right now in Mammoth, just piling up - It's not giving the plow guy a break in the Woolly Lot right now - He'll be at it all day.

That pacific conveyor belt smashing up against the cordillera - It's not gonna give no quarter, none at all throughout today.

That radar is Da Bomb! Mammoth is getting FIREHOSED with moisture and constant heavy snow. Visibilities have gone completely to hell and all. Massive moisture elements are smashing up from the Channel Islands straight NNE thru Fresno and on up right into the Cordillera, hosing Mammoth with torrential snow right now. It's developed into a pretty good rendition of a milkshake froth at times in heavy snow and high winds.

Where in the hell is plow guy when we need him? https://www.mammothmountain.com/on-the-mountain/mammoth-webcam/woolly-cam

He's probably exhausted from plowing deep snow all frackin' night already!

Jebman - looking good out west.  Wish they'd ship some of that white stuff to the MA.

If you have never skied the Alps before, you gotta give it a try.  In Zermatt you can ski 2x the max vertical available in N. America in one run!  Nearly 18K of vertical in two runs from the top to bottom.  Yea, the snow is generally better out west (wrt to quality of the powder).  The amount of vertical and steepness of terrain in the Alps is worth the trip.

The west coast and Rockies need precip maybe even more than the MA does. They’ve been struggling this winter up to this point because we’ve stolen the cold air (which ultimately has added up to about 3” in Frederick, tops lol).

Yes, this. Talked to son on Christmas day (He is in Park City) and they'd had 1" more snow this season to that date than I'd had here (11 vs 12"). Grass was showing and only 15 slopes with 14 lifts were open and the cross country stuff was all closed. It has snowed out there since, but they NEED MOISTURE!

They ruined the ACC vs pre-90's teams. Incredible watching games from the mid-late 70's until early 90's.

all of college sports is ridiculous now.  You see 4500 players entered the transfer portal today?  It's not sustainable.

They were so bad that they needed to show that at least some of their recent picks can be starters or contribute meaningful minutes.

lol good point but we get it...they have good players. They can stop now

Yep. I stopped watching ACC Basketball soon after the late, great Len Bias met his sad end. The Terps did have some good years with Gary Williams with 1 Championship, but things were different in the stands once Lefty was pushed out, like no more rubber skull caps on opposing fans lol.

My friend from high school went to UVA from 76-80 and would come back home during breaks with stories from basketball games and parties. Boy was I jealous. Of course, it was a different world back then and a lot of what he experienced wouldn't fly today.

I haven't been able to really follow UMD once they left the ACC. I miss the days of players actually staying for 3 or 4 years

That championship team with Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, Lonny Baxter,  Chris Wilcox and Byron Mouton was all home grown and you could see it building year after year.

Final four the year before they won it all and should of been in the championship game that year also. ( blowing a 20 pt lead to Duke)

yeah I still can't forgive UMD for leaving the ACC (although I understand it).
