5" of solid clear ice on the lake under a little snow. A couple guys ice fishing today out there. Currently: light snow. 28.2

Some of the ponds around here are frozen as well.  Not sure of depth but they are iced over and snow covered.  Wouldn't want to organize an ice hockey game just yet.

Yes. I am a sissy when it comes to going out on ice. I like 6". Preferably 8" of clear non slush ice. The young bucks were out there today. And drilled over the whole lake. 5" of solid clear ice.

Great to hear.  I have no idea what effect next week's' warming trend will have on that thickness?

Lake ice is a very tricky thing. A couple days of slight warming and below freezing at night is no big deal  when u get snow a several inches of snow cover on lake. Its like an insulating blanket. It will melt from below the ice.

I am referring to this as a snow hole. It's not a good way to start a storm but it should gradually fill in between 10-midnight.

Yeah usually you don’t want a storm to move in later because the later it moves in, you always lose some QPF. Nothing but flurries in NYC. Accumulating snow to the east and west though.

Most of the more reliable guidance didn't bring the significant snow into the area prior to midnight.
