FRG or ISP for the Island

HPN

POU or MGJ our nw folks

I know people can just look but this makes it so much easier lol.

Going forward, whether it is later this summer or in future years, whenever a potential heat wave in is the forecast, all the news stories will continue to propagate the misleading statement that "NY City has not reached 100 degrees since 2012."

JFK could have reached 105° if the sea breeze didn’t arrive. The Lefferts/ Ozone Park station just to the north on the other side of the Belt Parkway reached 105°. Another nearby separate Ozone Park station also made it to 105°. Newark and Harrison in NJ both reached 103°. This is the earliest 105° across the area since 7-3-1966. So the first 105° readings in this area during the month of June.

I think this will end up being our hottest stretch of the summer. The extended looks warm to borderline hot, but does not look exceptional. I’m fine with that, but honestly I will take anything if it means the back door gunk is done for awhile.

I can't imagine being above 90 as we approach midnight.  It's so crazy looking at Wundermap right now around Manhattan, Brooklyn, etc.  I've never experiened a phenomenon like that.  Textbook example of the UHI.

79 here.

UHI?  Mongo dunno.  I saw THI values up and down the entire east coast over 100 degrees...

I don't think we'll beat 100-105F readings with 130+ heat indices. Coming stretch looks more what we're used to and quite active.

There was no sea breeze here and I'm 5 miles due east of JFK.  It hit 106.0 here at 4:36 pm here.

Did JFK really get a sea breeze? They were still over 100 at 5 PM and I was over 100 at 6:20 PM

How did it not get below 84 here last night?

We got into the 80s around 10 PM but then hovered in the mid 80s all night.

With the dew point lower, I expected it to get cooler than that last night.

Didn't Westhampton also get to 100 yesterday Chris?

Maybe we all do it again today with it never getting below 84 here last night and completely sunny skies today and an offshore wind again?

This was a record event for late June in our area. The La Niña sample size for 103° or greater is very limited for the last 10 days of June. But 2021 was the last time. It turned out to be the highest summer temperatures we experienced that year.

This extreme event was associated with a very deep trough diving into the West. Current models forecasts don’t show a trough returning to the West as we head into July. So my very early guess is that this could be the only 103° to 105° range we see this summer. But there could very well be another few 100°-102° days beyond this current period.

I was dropping at a slow but steady pace but then just stopped and stayed around 81 or 82 the whole night.

it's also very rare to hold back the sea breeze like that.  If it happens again my guess would be between July 20-31? Like with a November snowstorm, doesn't it take awhile for the pattern to reload?

I think we could hit 100 again today and then our next chance might be in 4 weeks.
