Just beginning yes. The lakes on the MN/Canada border still have 20”+ of ice on them.

Yep, looking at cams around fort Frances/ international falls and there’s ice.

Leaf out for northern Ontario and central Ontario typically isn’t until mid May. Guessing the same for northern Minnesota

Leaves here have easily double/tripled in size since middle of last week

Solid summer-like day today.

Started off mild and humid during the morning, before turning warm and drier for the afternoon.

As mentioned in the Chicago record thread…

ORD had a high temperature of 87° today, which tied the record high temperature for the date of 87°, set in 1936 and 1964.

.

surprised the record for this date is only 87, would’ve guessed higher.

Todays record high is the “coldest” record high for the month of May.

It’s one of only two days for the entire month that the record high isn’t 90°+, the other being May 13th (89°).

We have dropped 30 degrees from a few hours ago, from 92 back down to 62.  Picked up 0.19" of rain, but a nice light show the past hour or so.  Getting 40mph gusts still well behind the main downdrafts.  Sort of reminds of the derecho in that regard, but obv not even close to the intensity.

DVN ended up hitting 67mph, and across the river at Clinton they hit 66mph.

Man this site is a morgue tonight lol.

High quality evening to be sure.  Have had thunder pretty much continuous for the past 7 hours, with at least another few to go.  The light show has been top notch several times throughout the evening.

Up to 0.69" for the evening as brief downpours have slowly added up.

that’s barely a fifth of the month… let’s see how it looks by the 15th.

As already mentioned, no one said the first half of May would be cold. Larry Cosgrove was the closest, and even he predicted that the pattern would break by 5/9.

That said, the first week of May has certainly been cold relative to average, which was expected by most.
