Tropical Storm Eta

Recommended Posts

Models continue to do some funky stuff with Eta in the long range.  The Euro is no longer moving it into the Pacific.  Instead, like other models, it moves into Central America but then sneaks back into the Caribbean near Belize.  It then snakes around the nw Caribbean, turning into a strong hurricane again.

973mb extrapolated. 87kts FL, 80kts SFMR.

974mb on the dropsonde in the eye, and we have the NE eyewall dropsonde with 81kts a hair above the surface with lower average of 88kts.

Amazing agreement between Euro and GFS in the long range that definitely hasn't been seen all year. This is concerning.

Evaluation is certainly unusual. Brings circulation of Eta back over water North of Honduras brings to NE almost to Cuba where it gets blocked by the ridge, pushed southwest a bit before getting picked up by the trough. Of course we are talking 10 days in the future and a lot is dependent on what happens with Eta after CA Landfall. If the circulation dies over land it may be moot.

Eta may very well end up the best looking hurricane in the Atlantic Basin 2020. Long way to go for continued RI through landfall and a beautiful upper atmospheric presentation evolving.

Looks like the storm we've been waiting for. Has a Pinhole eye thats rapidly warming. Probably deepening 3mb/hr.

This is a good time to move the storm floater over to some random clouds over the mid atlantic.
