Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Raleigh NC
130 AM EST Sat Dec 17 2016

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak wave of low pressure will track along the coast of the
Carolinas, along a sharpening coastal front, tonight. An initially
narrow ridge of arctic high pressure extending SWwd from the parent
high now a few hundred miles off the New England coast will
consequently be pinched off over the Carolinas later tonight and
Sat. In-situ damming, owing to light precipitation and widespread
low overcast, will result. The associated wedge front will likely
make little progress into central NC on Sat, then retreat more
appreciably Wwd into the Piedmont, Sat night.

.NEAR TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 130 AM Saturday...

...Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect for tonight for much of
central NC, north and west of a line extending from Rockingham
to Wilson.

Patchy light freezing rain continues to affect portions of the
Triangle, with patchy light rain to the SE. Temperatures have
dropped a few degrees since the light freezing rain began in
the Raleigh area, with 27-28 degrees common at 125 AM. Even with
just 0.01 reported at the RDU ASOS and at the NWS Forecast
Office at Raleigh, this is enough to produce icing.

Wake County 911 reported numerous accidents, some with injuries all
around Raleigh, with the most concentrated reports on bridges and
overpasses.

So far, there has not been enough light precipitation in the
Greensboro and Winston-Salem areas to have any reports. Readings
in the mid 20s are problematic if anything, even a trace falls.

The Interstate 95 corridor from Fayetteville to Benson at
Interstate 40 interchange was still all clear, but temperatures
were hovering near 32. Northward, there is more concern
from Benson to Wilson to Roanoke Rapids for the development
of ice patches due to the increasing radar coverage, and temperatures
at 30.

Expect that the coverage will continue to remain rather patchy, but
fill in from the northern Sandhills (Southern Pines and Sanford)
north and east through the Triangle and Rocky Mount (I-40 and I-95
corridors) through 400 am. Numerous accidents have already been
reported. It only takes a trace of ice to create a weather hazard.
Temperatures will not rise through daybreak. If anything, they
will fall a few degrees into the 20s. So, any travel should be
done with extra caution.

Thanks, off Parkins Mill Road in Gower Estates

Just viewed WYFF's forecast - up to 50 degrees by 8pm - I believe it - perhaps sooner

Hi res Nam says no chance...

My temp has dropped a degree in the last 45 minutes as I finally have some drizzle reaching the ground allowing me to get closer to my wetbulb temp. Down to 32.4 from a high of 33.7 at 7am.
