and instead they put you in Biloxi ? That's even worse than Waycross !

Biloxi has casinos and doesn't have gnats...win over Waycross.  Biloxi is actually a beautiful place - massive oaks and stately homes right on the gulf coast, but it's taken a beating with the 2 big canes.  Also, the other drawback is it doesn't have the clear water like the FL panhandle.

Just an observation  --- local NWS page for ( 2 miles NW of Smithfield Johnston County Airport, NC)

says "Thunderstorm in vicinity". If Apex and Raleigh and Knightdale are in the vicinity, I guess it's correct? There's nothing around here, though, and not even anything in the county. Maybe something will fire up along the outflow as that line moves East.

Yeah apparently the water contains flesh eating bacteria.

Did you enjoy your time in the airforce?

Yeah for the most part. I'm still in the AF reserves going for my 20. I have 3 years left. Long story but I started out active duty Navy...then Navy reserves. Then the past 8 years AF reserves. I'm an IMA reservist, which means I plug into active duty units for my drills and annual tours. I have no reserve unit. There are pros and cons to that. Anyway...yes I enjoy the work I do with the AF and the folks are highly professional in the weather field. I've been assigned to Shaw, Langley, and now Pope doing Army support. All highly different missions, but I've gained a lot from each.

How do you like tech school? I never went. I was waived since I had a degree and was working in operational meteorology.

Its great so far. I love tech school. We get every other Friday off to ourselves. Its just like college life. It just sucks to wake up so early at 3-4am. Then class is a mile away and we have to march all the way there in formation. We are drenched in sweat about time we arrive there, and the building is cold as ever. Class is fun though.

I get the feeling if Erika survives the next few days this could spell trouble for somewhere in the SE.  I've always wanted to experience a cane first hand, so I may make the trek to Charleston to stay with some friends if it comes close to there and isn't too strong.  Anything over a cat 1 though and I prob won't do it.  There's a few areas around where they live that have flooding with just certain tides.  I can't imagine how bad some of those areas I've been fishing in during flood tides would be during a cane.

So who's ready for some subsidence action!?!?!?   I can't wait until I can run/bike in the evenings without drinking a gallon of water in a span of an hour.  This feels like one of those summers that will last well into October.

It feels the opposite here... leaves started to turn a couple of weeks ago.  The high today was 79 and it's currently 73 and breezy... when I went outside a few minutes ago in shorts it was actually a bit cold.  It smells like fall, off and on the last couple of weeks even though it's mostly been quite hot.  I am definitely hoping summer ends early this year, after that miserable July and early August we had.
