Well this kind of sucks.  It's pouring and my station is reporting a rate of 0"/hour.  A bad time for it to fritz out--or maybe it's being recorded on the monitor and  just not transmitted to wunderground for some reason.  I'll need to do some investigating.

2.42" was recorded.

Up to 2.95" here now so you must be close to that also.

Buy one of the Stratus Rain Gauges as a backup (the CoCoRAHS recommended ones).   They are like $30 or so I think when I bought mine.  You'll have it for years and years.

Good idea--thanks.

Bring a toothpick outside and do a bird poop check. Usually that isn't a problem during rain, but if you had a lull maybe it was dry enough for a clogging.

Another good idea--thanks.

I had figured we were closing in on 3".  Still raining lightly but it looks like it's about to pull out of here.  Maybe some more showers later on though.

Well the AM look has somewhat of an interesting appeal to it.  The front is just off to our west and out ahead of it sfc winds are pretty much all out of the SE...even an ESE I think I saw out on the Cape.  Thanks to a very rich presence of low-level moisture, despite the lack of heating, instability values aren't too shabby.  Shear certainly won't be an issue with nearly 40-45 knots of 0-6km shear and near 40 knots of effective bulk shear.  Satellite does suggest we could see some breaks across the region as well.  With minimal capping though and lift close by activity could develop at any time

effective SRH is 100 for much of cT/MA into NH.  If something substantial can get going there is a ton of shear to tap into.

The dry air just above 700 hpa is brutal. These showers are really struggling to grow through that really dry layer.

Entrainment fail.
