The last few runs of both the NAM and GFS have been relatively consistent hanging the taint line near the south shore and from there into NE NJ.  Little variations, but the progress we are seeing with that line matches up well with what has been consistently modeled/

What`s OTG now ?

Aside from the usual blanket generalizations that we are not "north and west" being sometimes not useful, right now we are effectively 25 miles inland.  There is an ocean 25 miles south of us, and a good deal of ice just to our north.

It's a good thing the winds are from the south....not sure how much sound enhancement there would be with the degree of ice coverage.  Even in the open water, the water temp is probably below 32.

26 degrees with moderate snow here and 3.5" new as of 5PM.  Current snow depth is 16".

I skied this afternoon at Caleb Smith SP..  It was awesome, although I did get kind of wet.

Ed, can you think of a March day since JFK when the snow was deeper out here (close to 20 inches on ground)?  Maybe 1967....or March 1960 when they had the big storm at the start of the month?  There was the Big One in '56 where the overzealous Babylon observer found a couple feet.

frz rain/mix 2.5 before the change. I will take that for march 1st…looks like tons of tracking left to do this week!

seems a bit low, this looked like more than last week. I'm in Colonia. Still got some sleet, might be some ZR now. Hope it ends soon. have to go out to Rahway Hospital to feed my mom dinner. She can't feed herself.

I cannot.  I was thinking about the same thing yesterday and only 1967 came to mind, but I don't think they built up a persistent pack that year (repetitive heavy snow / cutter cycles).  There may have been some deeper snow depths in March 1967 because we had over 20" over a few days starting St Patrick's, but that really isn't the same thing.

It's not just the depth right now, there is a lot of dense snow on the ground.  My snow depth is from my front lawn.  I was in the woods this afternoon and a few time my ski poles punched through crust well over a foot.  It's variable based on sun exposure, but exclusive of todays snowfall, depths in the local woods are mostly ranging from around a foot to close to 18".
