The problem is the media is, in general, very bad at taking complex scientific concepts/predictions/thoughts and distilling them into easy-to-understand articles, stories, etc. The problem is made much worse by limited science literacy in the general public. That's a fact. There are people who do a really good job with it (Andy Revkin is the best example) and even Andrew Freedman from Climate Central/Mashable.
