It is getting really old hearing how good the pattern is, having a lot of cold and rain around this winter, but still no snow to show for it. Now I understand why the local mets are so pessimistic when it comes to snow in central NC, because most of the time even when the models show snow 48 hours out it changes or something happens to make it not verify. There is usually something that throws a wrench into things.

Thank you all for the support. I told you all I would keep yall informed so here is the prognosis. We just found out that my mother has stage III ovarian cancer and it has spread to some of her intestines. They are going to do surgery next Wednesday to try to get as much out as possible. It has spread to her lymph nodes also. All I can do is take it one day at a time. Again thank you all for the support!

Sorry to hear about this Met1985.  I appreciate the candor with which you are sharing your pain and resulting coping process.  I pray the doctors will be able to get it all out next week.

It's called cold advection, and the 850s are cold enough to support snow, and I know here in my area srf temps do not have to be all that cold for it to snow here. If cold advection takes over and drops it to 36/37 it would be snow, I've seen it snow here many a time with a srf temp around say 37 as long as upper level temps support it.

I don't even know how to respond to this. The column is saturated with no way to cool off.

The nam is showing a LOT of cooling of the column underneath that band.

Lookout said it best, under that band, NAM crashed temps.

Am I understanding correctly that the models/soundings are actually NOW showing what bsudweather was hoping for (and consequently got tongue lashed for daydreaming about)?  I don't really have a dog in this fight but it made me chuckle when I saw todays posts. Poor old bsudweather just made his statement 2 days too early. Prophet perhaps?

Not unless he is from the church of the blind squirrel.  Two days later the data often changes, which changes the result.  That does not alter the fact that at the time there was nothing to support his position.

Man, there are just all kinds of goodies coming down the pipeline!  Robert's mentioning four different quick-hitting waves, beginning with today's/tonight's action.  The LR looks awesome.  The indices seem to be heading in the direction we want them to go.  The cold is modeled to hang around, and there appear to be multiple shots of precipitation.  Hold on to your hats; it's about to get real up in in here!!

Agree completely! If the next pan out as Robert thinks it might then the long wait will be well worth it. It is encouraging that most of the models are onboard with what looks to be a fun pattern shapping up in the medium range.

Anybody know anything regarding the whereabouts of Tony (dsaur)?  Where have you been, man?

Tony, I ditched the plumbers and did the pex piping job with a buddy of mine from work.  So far, it's holding together.  :D   I wouldn't go so far as to say that pex piping is child's play, but you were right when you said it was easy to work with.  I love the flexibility in the piping that avoids the need for a lot of elbow joints like with cpvc piping.  $115 worth of tools and materials instead of $450 worth of someone else doing the job.  And, I gained some knowledge and some cool extra tools like a drill bit extender and a 1/2 inch pex pipe crimping tool!

I wish I knew as much about weather as I do brewing haha. I know how to read the models for snow but I don't have anything to contribute as far as analysis, research, etc. It seems you really need to have your ducks in a row before posting, which is fine because I am content just learning from what y'all write.

A lot of us stick to Banter for the most part - no need repeating the same stuff over and over in the discussion threads. Most of the time half of the posts in those threads could be deleted due to just being redundant (see what I did there?).

Good to see you pop in though, and thanks for the tips!
