michsnowfreak
Storm underwhelms in Chicago, strengthens to give Josh his 3"+, and then completely dies before reaching me. lolololol lol. Seriously though, its kinda baffling that DTW (2.9", 0.29") had a tad more snow/liquid than ORD (2.7", 0.27") when no model showed that, in fact, not one was even close to such a scenario. Where did Chicagos qpf go? We had dry air to overcome too.
hawkeye_wx
5.7 inches in my Cedar Rapids yard. That beat my prediction and is right in line with the nws and local met forecasts. The snow to liquid ratio was not very impressive, only 10 or 11 to 1.

snowstormcanuck
Despite the models not showing much in the way of good snow flake parameters, have been getting a steady stream of aggregates the last half an hour.

Geos
Skilling busted hard. At least he got within his original 3-4" forecast. 2.5-5" throughout the entire area, solid advisory level snow.
TugHillMatt
Getting some nice giant snowflakes from lake enhanced snowfall. Beautiful!
cyclone77
Picked up another 0.4" this morning, bringing the total to 2.8". My original 1-3" would have held. DVN map. Basically the heavier snow missed to the south, west, and north.
csnavywx
Ended up with 1/3" sleet, 1/8" ice, and 6" snow. Best storm in 2 years. Sad that I have almost as much snow as ORD this winter.
wxman1952
We had been forecasted for around 2" for my area today. It came this morning fast and heavy and we ended up with 5". That doesn't happen much, getting "more" that they forecast. lol

You really got a mixed bag. But the 6" of snow is great. Beats the crap out of my biggest storm total of the year.
Indystorm
2 inches of heavy dense snow here at Dunlap. Heaviest I've shoveled all season. Maybe some sleet mixed in.
Ottawa Blizzard
Despite the models not showing much in the way of good snow flake parameters, have been getting a steady stream of aggregates the last half an hour. snowstormcanuck
It snowed quite heavily out here for a couple of hours. Managed a 1/2" coating. Considering how anemic radar looked earlier this afternoon, I'm not too disappointed.
Chicago Storm
At least he got within his original 3-4" forecast. 2.5-5" throughout the entire area, solid advisory level snow. His original forecast wasn't his final forecast. The range across the area was 1-3.5"...locally higher.
cyclone77
His original forecast wasn't his final forecast. The range across the area was 1-3.5"...locally higher. On the news tonight he had a graphic that said 2-5" fell across the region. He's definitely on the slant sticking/weenie bandwagon when it comes to amounts, whether before or after the storm. Not sure why he's like this these days, as I always remembered him being very meticulous with the number game.

snowstormcanuck
How much do you guys have left from your big storm? I have a 5" glacier in my backyard, but it's from a combination of that storm and a 4"+ snowfall that came after it. Solid snowcover since Feb 8th though. michsnowfreak
For like the first event of the winter, ARB (2.3") did not outsnow everyone else in yesterdays sand-like snowstorm in SE MI . Looks like the winners were the heart of DTW/Wayne county (all reports ranging from 2.9-3.1") and up near Saginaw (4-5"). Despite temps rising briefly to 35F (but hovering for many hours at 33-34F) with fog overnight, the snowpack did not budge with its high water content. IWXwx
You can tell it's been a bad winter and bad modeling: 1,837 posts for a storm that delivered less than 4" to a vast majority of the subforum.
stormtrackertf
Nice storm here, especially as models had less than 0.10" qpf here until 24 hours or so before the storm. Once again, an overperformer (though a match with the last minute model trends). Ended up with 3.1" snow on 0.31" liquid imby, a FAR higher impact snowfall than the previous several 2-3" type snowfalls. Lasted less than 4 hours and the snow was like sand. Roads an absolute nightmare as it was dense 10-1 ratio snow but the surface was so cold there was absolutely no melting on the roads. Between drifting and tire tracks, the roads were very rutted with snow. Side note, I cant believe we got about what Chicago got. They were supposed to get 3-4 times more than us. Really isnt their winter. Great photos. Rare you see 3-4" of snow cover the roads that deeply, really a testiment to how fast the snowfall rates were that morning. michsnowfreak
Great photos. Rare you see 3-4" of snow cover the roads that deeply, really a testiment to how fast the snowfall rates were that morning. Thanks. BTW, I forgot you had reported 3.4" here. You should report to the NWS, no spotters in Detroit proper (sometimes Powerball reports). Wayne co reports were 2.9" DTW, 3.0" Westland, 3.0" Grosse Pte, 3.1" MBY, 3.4" YBY. It is rare that you see conditions like yesterday with that amount of snow, but it was like the "perfect storm". It was a unique combination. The snow was like sand. It all fell in less than 4 hours. It had a 10-1 ratio (sually 10-1 ratio snows are when surface temps are 30F+, so roadsalt does wonders). Surface temps were in the low 20s. snowstormcanuck
Afterbirth of Friday's storm moving through and dropping some snow. Looks like 1/2 an inch or so.
