Glad to see the current teleconection spreads. A +PNA and a neutral to slightly negative NAO signals the pattern we have been craving. Lol at those Accuweather mets changing their forecasts.

Some of those mets are probably just changing their forecasts for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, basing it on the possibility of another 2007-08 or 08-09 type year. Very few are cancelling or postponing winter for the Great Lakes or Upper Midwest.

Yea..it was interesting to see HM somewhat changing his tune a tad. Although the WeatherBell JB seems to be sticking to his guns but mentioning the prospects that this Winter will be unable to match the fierceness and cold of 2010-2011.

Mid-30s and rain...well, it IS November. Im glad to see the bare trees and slate gray sky actually. Just got back from a Carribbean Cruise yesterday. It was beautiful scenery but WAY too hot and humid. Have some pics here if interested

It has snowed twice here (Nov 10th and 17th) but just a trace, and it seems like we go through the old "winter cancel" stuff from some every November when deep winter doesnt set up over our region. We dont want a trough to park itself here in early November, let Denver and places like that get their usual Fall dump of snow, then let us get it when it COUNTS..DJF.

"The weather in November the winter will remember" is most laughable of all! Lets look at Detroits snow stats since 2004-05:

..............NOV......WINTER TOTAL

2004-05.....0.1".....63.8"

2005-06.....4.3".....36.3"

2006-07.....0.1".....30.3"

2007-08.....0.5".....71.7"

2008-09.....2.2".....65.7"

2009-10........0......43.7"

2010-11........T......69.1"

2011-12........T......???? (thru 11/22)

Relax all. No sweat. Im feeling yet another stellar winter in the Great Lakes region :)

You have competition now with your stats. Not sure if you know but Deedler is now a member here.

Freezing rain warning just expanded to southern Peel Region and Toronto. Sitting at -1C and 0.3mm in Wloo... haven't checked if anything interesting is happening outside.

Pearson was reporting -ZR with a temp of +0.6C at 7pm. Now we're down to the freezing mark at 8pm. Might start to get some accrual on the ground.

Hmm, well at least this storm got mildly more interesting. :)

Region of Waterloo Int'l was reporting light snow from 750-814pm but just changed over to light freezing rain

And you're right this is getting interesting! I'm going to go take walk -- first almost winter storm. Has nothing on lasts weeks lake effect, though... yet. Multiple sudden whiteouts and brief accumulations last thurs

Yeah I saw that. Any ground truth? I find it hard to believe it was snowing in KW given how warm it is aloft.

I haven't seen any snow here in waterloo. Though the trees are starting to get coated in enough ice that when the wind blows you can hear it. I live on the 9th floor so I haven't seen how the ground conditions are

I still find it funny there is another member in Waterloo! There is a large valley forest where Columbia turns into Lexington... might make it out that way to listen for creaks and such. Might sound cool with the echo off the cliffs.

Happy ice storm :guitar:
