Historic Tornado Outbreak April 27, 2011

Recommended Posts

32 deaths. God I hope we can be better at warning people.

Warning people means nothing if people don't heed the warnings.

The speed of these storms plus the strength of the tornadoes sometimes catches people by surprise.

Warning people means nothing if people don't heed the warnings.

In an event like this, deaths are inevitable. Some people can't heed the warnings because they live in a mobile home and dont have any mobility. Others are just unlikely - debris can blow into a basement and trap/kill an occupant.

And if it takes out the hospital. People are probably still bleeding to death right now.

That and this mornings storms and the damage to the infrastructure may have played a factor in that as well.

Good point, the Winfield, AL NOAA weather radio xmtr has been offline or at least having trouble staying online since this morning. Which of course, is why there is overlap with surrounding xmtrs. Inevitably there will be gaps in coverage though.

I want to reiterate that the coverage out of ABC 33/40 today has been outstanding, and their message has probably saved many lives.

That guy has been on air constantly for like 6 hours now. Hasn't missed a beat. He deserves something very special after this.

Yes, that is just stellar coverage. Top notch. I'm VERY impressed with those guys.
