  1. Past hour
  2. It’s the same concept as not installing when it’s hot and humid. It’s a weird mindset
  3. something changed for me as well. it could still see the original "General Forecasting and Discussion" tab, but I couldn't see anything at all for the "Regional Weather Discussion" tab at all (on mobile), making it more difficult to access threads there.
  4. Winds already getting rather gusty here and we’re not even in the advisory window yet. Reading the other thread, I’m expecting this one to unfortunately over perform like yesterday did. Thanks all.
  5. Heats been off all day; night included and it’s 69 inside. And that’s with partly sunnny skies.
  6. Declared extratropical at 11 am. Safe to say I don't think we will be seeing the name Melissa again.
  7. I shouldn’t have to explain this but conservatively shade vs non shade is about -10/+10 in terms of real temperature. That’s point 1 point 2 is key — this matters in how many south facing windows you have, but if you maximize that, the heat captured is incredible as the lower angle is directed into the core of the house rather than to the roof as in summer. This affect is not well correlated to atmospheric temperatures… Next time you go into your full-sun exposed car, and it’s 30-40 outside take note how it’s 65+ in your car. That heat is captured and not irradiated back. Same as your home. If you’re paying attention, these are basic physical processes at work and intuitive.
  8. It was gusting to 50mph yesterday here and it probably took 60% of Oak leaves only, stubborn suckers. At least those that did drop are now blown into NY with that wicked east wind...lol.
  9. No one said this has been a frigid month. Scratch the four torch days in the first week of the month and most places around here had a normal to slightly below normal anomaly, even going by the 1981-2010 averages. Central Park had only one daily high barely touch 70 since the 8th of the month, that is impressive any way you slice it.
  10. I know that if I park under a tree in winter, many times cars out in the open (depending on temps) will be covered in frost while my car isn't. So the thermometer being under trees must be increasing nighttime temps at the park in winter, or any other good radiational cooling nights (you would think.)
  11. Very strange! When you go to https://www.americanwx.com/bb/ do you see what the first screenshot I posted shows with “General Forecasting and Discussion” showing and not “Weather Forecasting and Discussion”?
  12. We had our last night. Thankfully they held off making a decision until noon yesterday because the night was beautiful. My daughter had a blast, gets to go to her friend's Halloween sleep over tonight, then gets to trick her treat once more Saturday at her friend's house. I'm thankful that the worst of the winds should be gone by trick or treat tonight. Falling branches combined with masses of flesh wearing attire with poor visibility and mobility at night just feels like tragedy in waiting. Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk
  13. I'm hopeful that when the winds back from 180° to 330° today into tomorrow that all the leaves that blew up the driveway end up at the neighbors like most years...............
  14. I had that problem at my last house, the windy days never blew towards the woods so I'd have to wait and have twice as much work when the wind calmed down.
  15. this. I have a kick-ass heating system in my house and I'm not leaving it off when it's cold outside. keep mine in the 68-70 range, bit cooler in the bedroom for sleeping
  16. I do as well, This time of year i set the thermostat at 66°F.
  17. Nice synopsis and accurate too (well, notwithstanding the HAARP's accord...) What always strikes me hereabouts is the transition to 'stick season'. Early in the month, most deciduous leaves are down but there's still enough oak, beech, and birch leaves tenaciously hanging on as a last gasp of the growing season left behind; by the end of the month, its down to just a few stubborn trees while the landscape takes on a brown and gray skeleton. The inverse of May. The other striking difference to me is, the first flakes are met with welcome anticipation, again inverse of how the last flakes in April, or sometimes May, are received.
  18. I like the home to be on the cool side. The cold/cool doesn't bother my wife and I at all.
  19. I got nothing. Let's go!
  20. It's great to get some cold air for the first half of December, but it's so hard to snow around here then. Cooler first half of December, warm up for the holidays and into January. Then praying late season snow in February and March. Sound familiar lol. If we get a good pattern for December, hopefully it extends into the back half of the month.
  21. Woke up to 33 this morning with frost. I just emptied 3.24 inches out the gage for the week. Not too shabby at all!
