Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs
ChescoWx replied to MAG5035's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
We will continue well below normal temperatures both today and tomorrow before we moderate to near normal by Wednesday (low 40's). Well above normal for one day on Thursday (upper 40's) before back to normal temperatures toward the weekend. Rain chances increase by Thursday night. -

I think he was a little tongue-in-cheek with the "winter ends" proclamation, but just my take. Point was that the pattern looks to be subpar for a while. -
Low of 11° in Greensboro this morning—the Triad's coldest temperature since January 2024.
-
I would say the Euro AI spotted it 4-5 days out or so and was consistently aggressive with it. The RRFS was the best model close in considering how well we ended up doing and it was always the wettest short term model. The other hi res models kinda waffled on QPF until the end.

I don't think my climo has dropped this precipitously for the long-term...maybe it has and I'm wrong, but talk to me in another 6-8 years. -

Low temp this morning was 15.7F. The snow is extra crunchy and the ice sheets are abundant. Currently 20F. -
Low temp 18. 16 at the mesonet station a few miles inland.

Horrible news. I was watching All in the Family last night before the game. For some reason I have this unrealistic view that rich, famous ppl live in fortresses with all sorts of security and are immune to violent crime. Yeah, very naïve on my part.

December 14th - Snow showers or Plowable snow?

That's precisely the reason I love blogging too. It help keeps my sharp and I kind of use it as a way of talking to myself to ensure I am understanding of what's going on meteorologically (under the hood). -

Again ... setting expectations proportional to what is becoming (otherwise) too painfully clear to ignore, will do wonders for ameliorating one's angst. When the flow slows, it's too warm to snow - or tends to be. I've learned to just know this will result - and I've been right more often then not. I feel no distraction. Acceptance will set you free! Related to that ... I was looking at the 300+ hr Euro and that's remarkable. 570 dm heights over the EPO domain, almost that high over the eastern limb of the NAO domain, and the flow in between spanning the continent is compressed at the nadir. So much so it's intrinsically a +velocity-related negative interference pattern. So it's like yeah ... there's cold around ( still - ) but getting it to 40N, here we are again. Seeing so without this negative result has been rarefying. -
We continue to see this upcoming torch muted. Honestly yall shouldn't be surprised. This has basically happened all season.

My area actually shot up to around 60 for a couple with rain after 11" and blizzard conditions. Over hyped crap here lol.

Will not posting and/or Dryslot doing model pbp are my two biggest weather bugaboos. close the shades type events. -
The funny thing is a little before the timestamp I started the video at, the guy is like, "1.1 inches?" clearly indicating that there is no way that was correct, which was the measurement reported like 30 minutes before the video is taking place.

It is. Weymouth flips out with each run of the models now…he’s one of the biggest Debbie’s going. Posts a week 4 map lol…wtf happened to that guy? 36 hrs ago he was saying how good it looks. I know…he’s had kevins craftsman run into his cheeks, but my god what a mess he is. It’s gonna ebb and flow…watch SNE end up with more snow the second half, than the first. Wouldn’t take much…but he’s saying good by to winter with a week 4 map. Pathetic. -
Yes it was meteorologically speaking but so far as snow goes was only about 13 inches. Was alot of sleet and zr mixed in especially in central md

Yup. I know every now and then we all debate on would you rather have one big monster storm for the winter and little outside of that or a winter which is composed of many, but small events. There was a time I would have preferred the former, but I think I would prefer the later (I mean the true preference would be many smaller storms but a few big monsters lol). In general, winter and cold suck...but getting snow makes it tolerable. Give me several 2-5" events and winter will be more fun to deal with -

Herb@MAWS started following Poster’s Location
-
I seem to recall being able to see a poster’s location on my phone if I turned it longways/sideways. I don’t see the location on my phone any more, which is unfortunate for when a poster says “4 inches of snow here” or “ it was 1 degree imby this morning”. is there a setting or something I need to edit to see poster locations on my iPhone?

I didn't bottom out until 4:28 am at 5.8, up to 6.5 at 7 am CoCoRaHS report and now 7.9/1.8 at 8:50 am.
