Beginning to smell smoke here/hazy. Temp 93 which might do it if we get thicker smoke from here.
-
New hrrr has the whole LP engulfed in smoke by tonight, and most of Ohio by tomorrow morning.
-
Easily the worst air quality since moving to the CT Shoreline. Very strong smell of smoke and anyone with even the slightest of respiratory issues should stay indoors. Your eyes and throat start to sting after being outside for more than a few minutes.

My weather station showed just 1200 lux of brightness at 10:30 a.m.; that is insanity! For this part of July and time should be at least 60,000 maybe closer to 80K right now. Not even in 2023 did this degree of dimness befall us. Perfect day to be downstairs or in a room with maximum light brightness. Me and others are feeling sluggish as low light at the start of a day is deleterious to energy and mind. I'm seeing smoke-enhanced cloud streams on sat over me adding to the darkness, and even blips and clutter on radar in a peculiar way. Smoke warning mentions temps will be lower than forecast, its dramatically lower here I'm only at 23C and its noon. Originally going to be 30C; we're not getting there unless smoke thins this eve and we get a rally.

Not sure we even need a calamity. Just look at birth rates throughout the world. Any developed country is not producing enough people to sustain our population. A lot of Asian societies are facing a remarkable collapse in the coming decades. Human population growth looks to go into general decline in the coming decades.

2026-2027 Super El Nino
snowman19 replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Whether the forcing is at 140W or wherever, we won’t know for sure until November….one thing is for absolutely sure and guaranteed, this super El Niño is going to be the main driver this winter, for sure, by far and away, the elephant in the room -
Really weird and eerie glow. Give me sun any day of the week. I’m feeling it physically and avoiding outdoor activities. Today I’m on campus in Worcester all day so hopefully when I drive home it will have shifted. Flat out sucks. And despite the obvious cap on temperatures it’s plenty hot. 88 now and obviously a higher ceiling if it clears somewhat. @ineedsnow, anyway you slice it this is an unexpected hot summer so far.

91/72 here, 99 heat index. Humid and smokey out there

I think it's pretty clear that the wildfire smoke was the main culprit for thunderstorm activity not occurring over Maine as it suppressed instability to an extent and created and maintained a mid-level cap. Doesn't seem like modeling picked up on that at all. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the lack of storms in Maine also meant that the environment S and W was untapped and contributed to overperformance farther south in NY, VT, and NH. The forcing was clearly there and this was close to being a much more destructive event. I think we got pretty lucky all things considered but numerous severe reports in this region doesn't constitute a total "bust" IMO.

Wow, that is surreal. Wonder what code that gets? Code orange here today and tomorrow.
-
Currently 92 here. Probably makes it to 95 then we’ll see how much smoke holds temp down.
-
Except for the band that just crossed LI and SW CT the smoke aloft is mostly thinner than yesterday so many places are warmer than this time on Tuesday. Also more favorable downslope. Yesterday the lack of surface heating kept winds down somewhat and even allowed LGA to stay more 210-230 most of the day.

I don’t care or see the big deal either way.

90/101

Wow, it looks like 8:30 pm out there. There's a weird "solar eclipse" vibe about it where things don't quite seem right. The air definitely has a heaviness to it. I don't smell smoke, but my mouth kind of tastes weird. Was it mostly forest that burned up there, or did it hit a lot of manmade things that have who knows what in them?
-
92 here right now.
-
I can smell the smoke but don't really see it yet

Took 134 to the New Sharon Dunkin Donuts a few times this week. Hard to beat the views as far as a quick car ride is concerned. Taking the kids to hike Bald Mountain Preserve in Camden tomorrow morning. Usually it's Bald Mountain or Mt Blue in Weld, but I'm out of hiking shape and we are looking to try something a bit different outside of the Kennebec Highlands trails near us.

Smoke starting to filter in here in Suffolk as well. Temp has “dipped” down to 90.
