2025 Lawns & Gardens Thread. Making Lawns Great Again
DavisStraight replied to Damage In Tolland's topic in New England
I didn't notice any. In the woods across the street there many, many more dead ash, lots have fallen too. If I was staying here, I'd grab some for firewood, no need to season. Where I'm going, I'm going pellets this time. -

Sadly I’m bay side which flattens the waters. Which I’m ok with cause it helps keep my bait on the bottom. But fish just like the chop better for stirring up food to feed.

Yeah let’s do it. Kev can help ring in their Anny in style! Graham does not mince his words Kev knows many many lol -
I love a nice NE wind for a week to generate a swell. Than a light west wind for a day. It happens in October. I've seen some dreamy surf conditions along our beaches during that combination. Beautiful day to work outside today. I didn't even notice the temperature besides it not being hot.

I sense the gears of fall slowly turning further to our north. Count your days summer because soon those crisp fall breezes will be pushing you out! EURO brings some nice dews teasingly close to us to open August. Still too early.. Also. Football in a month. Best time of year (September- new years) is loading up!

It’s likely coming to some extent. But we’re plenty AN between cool downs. Looks like a pattern where both sides get a little of what they want. -

Could always tell (and appreciate) when it was Burns who was moderating since he treated it all as it should be treated -> as a principal disciplining unruly children. RIP to a good man.

Haha, doubt it but if my brother-in-law wants to go I’ll shoot ya a message. He’d do anything to get out of there lol. My 75-year-old parents get all their kids, spouses and grandkids together for one Saturday a summer on their 45th anniversary… I’m sure they would understand leaving for a couple hours in the afternoon to meet a fellow weather weenie. I actually should float the idea just to see my mother’s reaction. Maybe Sunday on the way out. Still funny you know Graham. “How the f*ck do you know Kevin?” lol. -

He’s going to his parents big anniversary. I suspect that supersedes tree house. -

That’s a lot of competition psychology just to say the first week has a trough and then the ridge folds over after that. -

A splash of blue in a literal sea of red for next month . They’ll do anything they can for a few days near 80 first week of the month. It’s a clear show of desperation. They playing right into our hands . - Today

Any seedlings growing? I have a bunch in the yard growing here. -
Really sad to hear about the passing of your dad, John. JBurns was a name I can remember seeing plenty of in my time on the forum. He was very well spoken and a knowledgeable read. He had a profound impact on many in here through his time as a moderator and dear friend. His legacy will live on forever. My condolences to you and your family. He will be missed dearly

This. I had one of the most incredible tornado dreams last night(these are recurring, where I think I am finally witnessing it, only to wake up and be like, dammit!) I hope that's what its like when a weather weenie passes. Perpetual dreams of witnessing amazing weather events. RIP Mr. Burns.

More! (Tip's writing ability) x (Wiz's excitement over New England, severe weather) I'm not a fan of heat, so I ran script to figure out the median date of the max. (Summer) daily temperature via GHCND .csv files (TMAX field). Based on what I ran (32 different records/1 per-year from 1994-2025), the median date is ~Jul. 13th for KBOX (labeled, 'NWS BOSTON/NORTON' at https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/pub/data/ghcn/daily/ghcnd-stations.txt). After July 24th, there's a good chance (75%) KBOX experienced their warmest day of the year. Just for S&Gs. -
Thank you for posting a photo of your dad. When I first saw the RIP JBurns I thought to myself, that's the Incredible Hulk, so I went to his profile and opened the image in another tab and increased the size and saw it was actually an Orc or Ogre, and being a rabid Lord of the Rings fan I then thought about Gandalf's words as I always found Tolkien's writings to be the most inspiring and at times a comfort. GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. I am sorry your dad had to deal with cancer and may he truly be at peace, as I often wonder if I will find that political verbal brawls will be a part of the afterlife of which I will be partaking, and what exactly will the weather be like. I hope you and your family find comfort in the memories of your dad.
