Ginx snewx
15.5" away from matching my largest January on record.... 1966. CoastalWx
Seems like there is a kicker in the northern stream. Yeah and it does no dig as deep as the euro does. Hopefully truth is somewhere in the middle.

Ice Warrior commander
No, the ski areas and far NW areas need snow too. Time a few cutters to even the score, IMO. We are rooting for record snow depth's in SNE this season. So, the ski area's can have it another year.
Ice Warrior commander
I can't imagine that coming to pass; 3'+ snowpacks do not happen, here. I measured a 38" snowdepth in Jan 1996 near KORH.

I have not seen a snowdepth like that since that season. so, it seems hard to inagine it even this year. the storms will have to prove it to me. i have some pics of that season. My current snowdepth is 19".

nzucker
Seems like there is a kicker in the northern stream. I think that kicker coming through the Plains is the key...it keeps the big system moving along to the East instead of becoming overamplified and cutting. I like the way the kicker acts as a springboard for coastal development that could benefit I-95. GFS looks like a moderate Nor'easter for the coast.. nzucker
I have a feeling this will not be the only polar plunge. 18z GFS has a monster Alaska block at Day 10 with a nice east-based -NAO, near perfect recipe for cold weather:

nzucker
same ole GFS at 120 though, it will kick back little by little I think it will end up closer to the coast than the 18z GFS shows, obviously, although I'm not too worried about changing to all rain here. Impressive signal for a Nor'easter with the storm on basically every model and every ensemble.
