I arrive there on Tuesday, hope you took on all the rain today haha.  Enjoy yourself.

We were on a tour to the natural pool and the former invest 92l threw out some feeder bands. Rest of the day was the usual aruba windy and dry. We were drenched and didnt even get to swim, the natural pool was closed. that side of the island had 15’ plus waves.

Showers and perhaps a thundershower are likely into this evening into early tomorrow.

Following the frontal passage, Tomorrow through Wednesday should feature temperatures in the lower to middle 80s, along with partly to mostly sunny skies.

Another cold front could bring some showers or thundershowers to the region Wednesday night or Thursday. The frontal passage will be followed by a reinforcing shot of cooler air. Thursday and Friday could see highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.1°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.6°C for the week centered around August 6. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.72°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.15°C. The ongoing strong El Niño, which has reached super El Niño threshold, will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -17.84 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.420 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 53% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal August (1991-2020 normal). August will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.3° (0.2° above normal).

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 1.1° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

After Wednesday, we may finally break the Summer heat.

Today was godawful. Low to mid 60s windy with rain and ugly dark skies all day. This weather belongs in October not August. How much do we need to accelerate climate change to make sure today's weather never happens in summer ever again?

The warmer spots away from the seabreeze in our area have rivaled and exceeded the maximum heat from the 1980 to 2002 era since 2010.

The warmest CONUS maximum temperature departures have split between the West Coast to Western Plains and the East. So the area in the middle hasn’t been as warm as that era.

The other big difference between now and the 1980 to 2002 era is that we haven’t been  getting the cooler summers between the warmest years. Notice that the cooler summers like 1982, 1985, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2009 haven’t been occurring.

So the coolest summer of the 2020s so far has been around 30 days reaching 90° at the warm spots instead of under 10 days like 1996. This is why it’s the first time the warm spots in NJ went 9 consecutive years without a break from 30+ days reaching 90° from 2018 to 2026.

Notice how much warmer the only 3 relatively cooler summers have been since 2010 compared to 8 coolest summers from 1982 to 2009.

To be fair those cold summers were godawful too. I particularly remember the Pinatubo summer of 1992. I was in the Poconos that summer too and it was in the 40s here in late June and raining all the time. I remember 1996 differently since I was on Long Island most of that summer it was extremely humid even though not hot and that made it much worse than if it were hot and less humid. I actually remember blacking out one day in June 1996 when it was overcast 82 degrees with a dew point of 82 100% humidity. My most hated kind of weather.

Interesting same years appear on these lists 1988, 1993, 2010 and 2022. I would put 1993 and 2010 above all the rest region wide. Tony do you have a list for highest number of 80 and 85 degree highs too for the three airports and the park too?

Oh no!  Was there a month ago and the weather was great minus 2, 5 minute showers

Yeah the only other time ive ever gotten poured on here was a few years ago. Was walking on the beach after midnight from a casino back to my hotel and got caught in a wicket thunderstorm. Was not a fun walk lol. For the most part the weather has been perfect here as usual.

Picked up .49" rainfall last 24 hours.  August up to 5.47" here.

Everything green as could be.  I honestly don't think I've watered anything but some flowers in pots that are in full sun since late May.  Have not had to water the lawn at all since late May.  If we can just have modest rains for the next 6 weeks or so to wrap up the growing season that would be great.  Daylight getting noticeably shorter now both morning and evening.  Will start to drop off quickly as we get into early September.  While not over by any means Summer is on the run.
