A is colder than B. So that would be 7a creeping in down there. (0 to +5)

Still a 5b here which makes sense. My average extreme min is probably around -11 or -12 here…cooler in the valley. But growing zones are kinda dumb because it only takes one cold shot to go well below your zone and kill plants that you’re potentially zone pushing with.

Feb 2023 is a good example with -10 and wind at BOS.

With no winter this year .. and living in the worst climate in the lower 48 like you do.. why do you want summer to end ? A winter there of 40’s and 50’s and no snow will not be fun

Are you talking about Pit1 or Pit2?   My winter expectations for Pit1 are limited to the fantasty pipe-dream storms of James' lore.

Last year's Mattapoisett winter will just be the topic of 'remember whens' when the oldies are talking in future decades.

I think the last legit subzero cold shot here was back in Feb 23. I think it dropped to -5 here. 

I have been using heat pumps since 2016 and went out and took this infrared picture of my heat pump still pulling heat out of the air at -5 with a -20.5 discharge temperature.

All the red on my foundation and ground is heat leaking out of my house.

That month was really sunny as we'll I think.  Here is a chart of my solar powering my heat pumps and entire house and sending power out to the grid. I think it was on the same day as the other picture I just posted. 

My solar inverter is rated for 5kw and was actually clipping/reducing power to the 5kw limit.

8 years old vacation in NH Maine  went up the COG 70 degrees by the time we got up it was 32 snowing. They turned us us around and closed top. We were camping in a remote cabin and absolutely froze our balls off.

Anyone else dealing with lantern flies in CT? Full on invasion here around New Haven. All the kids in the neighborhood are killing them with salt guns.

They’re in S NH now.

Not sure why there’s such a push to have the public kill them. It’s like gypsies, japanese beetles, EAB, etc…once they arrive they’re there for good.

A lot of reports from further south are that they go wild for a few years and then the numbers drop off quite a bit. Not sure if that’s a case of other insects and animals learning that they’re tasty or if there’s some other factor at play.

The continents will all be back together again in 250M years so we may as well mix all of the insects around the planet together now.

This. I’ll still gladly kill one if they happen upon me though as humans are great at killing things.

Predators are learning that they are good eats. Birds, amphibians, arachnids, other larger preying insects.

PWM touched 33 on August 31.  Next coldest August temp is 38.  MWN had a couple inches of snow.

Pit2 is about 33 miles NE from PWM and 15 miles up the Kennebec estuary, which is mostly fresh water that far up - only when all the rivers feeding Merrymeeting Bay are very low does muc salt gets there.  PWM is 2 miles from Casco Bay, and its 1991-2020 norm is 69".  2001-30 so far is 65", both close to ORH.  Pit2 probably gets 5-10" more than the Jetport, though I'm not sure it beats ORH for retention.
