what's even stranger is who is advising them to close or dismiss?  Was happy our super went with a regular day here-they usually don't do that and jump on board with all the other ones making the wrong decision....

It’s not as big of an issue along the shore, I agree with you speaking of your location specifically

Honestly don’t understand how CT does that shit. Any salt on the roads during March daytime is totally fine with this setup. Good God.

I think it’s more about sidewalks and lots and Drieways a lot of slip risk with the kids when they get dismissed “IF” the cold holds.. still not sold as I’m up to 31 here

yeah, has the feeling of a lot of 33 and rain around here.....if this was early February and not March sure, my solar panels are producing pretty well currently despite clouds and light snow falling

I saw that, never heard of it before, glad we homeschool and don't have to worry about those things anymore....kids were doing their school during the raging blizzard last week, lol

Sucks for them…poor kids.  What kid wants to be doing school work as a blizzard is Raging outside. :axe:

Shot up to 30 here from a low of 14, but has leveled off. I'm thinking I'm going to be on the warmer side of 32 for most of this event, but we'll see.

Edit. Someone mentioned solar. I begin to ramp up the credits this time of year, but curretnly net imported 56 kWh since I had them installed a couple years ago. Looks like I may get a bill, but the guvna is supposedly going to discount it.image.jpeg.43ee30195442ea3fac624f65d6374898.jpeg

oh they had plenty of time for that too....they are also on track to be done with school by May 15th, earlier if they want to by doing some extra work each day. They also get mandatory hiking days in the spring when the weather is nice

Absolutely beautiful outside right now.  Feels like t-shirt weather after the past 48 hours.

-8F this AM and now 32F.

We’ve recovered 40 degrees before noon.

Regarding schools closing I can tell you that some of it is simply that some systems don't have the maintenance staff that they did a decade or two ago. I've seen it myself in a couple systems where I do electrical maintenance. They can't keep up with stairs and sidewalks let alone parking lots. And then of course there's always our litigious society

Enough with the cancellation BS. John(FXWX) explained things perfectly a while back.  All It takes is one little mishap, and a kid gets hurt, and say good bye to your job as as superintendent. And a massive law suit for the town/city.

If I was in that job I’d cancel too…not going down from sue happy folks. Lots of districts, including mine, had a half day already planned, and the onset of frozen precip here inland was going to coincide with dismissal and travel during that window.   If we had a full day here…I think we wouldn’t have had a cancellation.  But we were slated to get out early and that’s what prompted the cancellation.

If folks weren’t so lawsuit happy, maybe it would be different..but it isn’t. So that’s why it is the way it is.

Our superintendent made a bad call his first year in, and he had us going in in the morning during a freezing drizzle event in early January, that came out of nowhere, and it was a total disaster of a morning.  The parents and teachers wanted to hang the guy. He said never again…and I don’t blame the poor guy.  It ain’t worth the hassle, and potential loss of your job.

Also it’s a catch 22 for the supers…if you cancel or let out early and it doesn’t do much…people are bitching.

If you make the call to go in and have school and it goes nuts…then people want to Sue you and say you’re negligent. Can’t win. So cancel or whatever, and err on the side of caution, and win the battle. And save your job.

I homeschool as well but have one that's a freshman at a tech school so when he gets off I give the other one the day off too, but radar looks like a mess, and he hasn't had a full week since before the break, although he did get suspended for some nonsense, however they used to complete all their school work in a couple hours as opposed to all day bouncing around to classes and breaks/recess etc...my opinion there should have been school today, even here I'm close to 32 already and half inch maybe otg

My reality of this goes something like

Too cold today

Snow later on and night

Some nape value tomorrow, but otherwise annoying during a reprehensible pattern that's become quite consistent with this piece of shit month that used to be viable but has become too mangled by CC to be what it used to be

Ya but when it’s your job to provide safety…you’re gonna take the fall If you err on the wrong side. What’s so hard to understand about this?

I agree…there are times when a cancellation may not be needed..if we knew exactly what the future may hold a few hrs from decision time…but we don’t.  If it was your job on the line…what would you do?  I’d play it safe in that situation.
