This storm is very curious, it's like there are two separate storms one after another.
If I remember correctly, this is how it was originally modeled. Two waves strung out back to back. Later models suggested phasing. Not sure if that happened or not. Someone more knowledgeable would need to answer that.

Reminds me of PD2.  Such a bust again.

I have no idea how it’s possible but the sleet is actually mixing with snow now

I agree, it's so odd - Spartanburg on I-85 was snow early, then sleet for a while, then snow being mixed back in with the some sleet, then all sleet again.  Common sense says how?  With this front coming West to east directly over us, freezing rain is inevitable right?  Right? Right? I hope not, but right?  haha

Only 2.5 inches of snow/sleet so far. Pouring sleet right now. Currently 14 so hopefully I'll miss the worse of the freezing rain. As a person from Western New York this storm is a snooze lol

Technically 3 for my area. We got a half inch of rain Friday. Then another half last night through this morning, with another half inch to inch this afternoon. Been a dreary 3 days here. On a good note, its all been rain, NO ICE.

Here is my thinking, and I could be totally wrong. This high pressure is very strong. It slowed the moisture a lot. So much so that it has given the pacific moisture time to catch up with the gulf moisture. If you look to the west, the precip looks heavier. The flip side, the CAD came in stronger….and it has set it. This afternoon is going to be a doozie, IMO. Heavy freezing precip.

Yeah, we better hope that qpf weakens before it gets here. Otherwise, it’s not gonna be pretty.

NWS should send a team to study the extreme microclimate that always seems to exist between you and me. I'm ~0.7 miles from North Hills and haven't seen a single flake all morning, all sleet/zr.

I do think alot of people think they are out of the woods. This afternoon will be a disaster for many with that front coming through.

Much like you boys up in the Carolinas, mainly sleet here overnight.  Some ZR but more sleet than anything, hardly any ice on limbs or leaves.  Still have power.

I am incredibly curious how the CAD holds here in NE GA as the LPS pulls north and tries to pull the warm air north.  HRRR and NAM 3k have backed off ZR amounts.

I don't remember a CAD event keeping temps below freezing without moisture falling through the air, but I know it's strong.  I am also interested to see if we get thunder ZR as the front pushes through.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. Up north you can see how places are colder than expected as well and the snow in the DC to Boston corridor is beginning as nothing and then SN+ with some places close to visibility below 1,000 feet nearly immediately upon the commencement of snow beginning. This means the precip is running into a literal wall, or a high pressure system that is unduly strong. It's acting almost as an SWFE.

Now, if that was the only storm/batch of moisture, I would breathe a sigh of relief. But it's not, and this storm is still ramping up. So you'll have a storm getting it's act together with heavier precip and strong WAA with an uncharacteristically strong HP filtering in a strong CAD situation.

It's still a set up for a significant ice storm.
