    December 8-10, 2018 Winter Storm

I'm assuming a youth in HS. Fantastic to see youth interested in weather. Keep up the great work, and hopefully others at your school are interested. One of my fondest memories from HS 78-81 was a young boy with special needs that memorized the weather every day. There are lots of excellent weather sources here...follow your dreams. Hope you make a LOT of people happy this weekend! sorry for the banter, just wanted to encourage a student!

You really need to consider moving along or north of 85. 6 miles short is just too far!

    December 8-10, 2018 Winter Storm

Uh, you missed the point. It's all about the placement of the High. Yes, "damming is when the cold air is funneled along the eastern slopes of the mountains. That is a very good thing. The poster is correct though...if the high is too far north and west, the cold air has to go over the mountains....not funneled down the eastern slope.

    December 8-10, 2018 Winter Storm

for someone who has spent my entire life in Upstate, SC....it's all about that H. Is it going to be strong enough to funnel cold air on the East side of the mountains to our area? It is impossible for people who have never lived here...to understand how much those mountains affect our weather.

    Potential 1/17-1/18 threat

Correct, if we can get them to a 2-4" probability, it will elevate to a WSW. Got to be 3" or more.

this is excellent information that I can tell comes from experience. Typically, these clipper type systems has all their energy drained by the Apps. This one is different, in that there is some gulf moisture being tapped. So this that is going on in MS and AL is a tremendous teaser to those of us in GA and SC. If history is a good indicator....you are spot on. Counties like Franklin, Hart, Oconee, Pickens, Upper GSP, Cherokee get hosed.

    Potential 1/17-1/18 threat

Just my 54 years of experience living here...these type systems rarely produce anything for Oconee, Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties. Those mountains creates a large amount of sheer or something. I'm not Met enough to explain it. But the mountains wring out all the moisture and the upper mass becomes very dry. It would be a perfect setup if we could tap some of the gulf moisture. But not looking good. I'd say .5 is about right.

There just isn't any moisture to work with. Unfortunately

The January 7-8th possible CAD storm

Looks like the Duke Power Nuclear Plant is doing its typical "radiation warming" for Oconee County.

The January 7-8th possible CAD storm

It's been colder than a witches boobies for two weeks now...burning my electricity bill up to massive numbers. Pricip starts heading this way, it gets suppressed. Then as it begins to warm up, the heavens open up and dump rain on us. If God has a sense of humor for the Upstate...his joke has to be mackerel_sky!! LOL just kidding buddy. I feel your anxiety for snow!! I missed the one in December for being at my kids house in Mt. Pleasant. And now Mt's Pleasant gets more snow than we have in 2 seasons!

    January Observations

Woke up to no heat in the house. Apparently, so cold it triggered the HVAC breaker off. (not the one at the breaker box) 58 in the house and about 10 outside.
  22. For the record, loving the upstate SC interest among members. Great presence!
