dumb mf'er who lives across the alley from me got his tesla stuck in the snow.  See we live on a street corner, so our house is the closest to the street on the alley.  So I shoveled out the alley up to the back of our house and shoveled out our concrete pad (so we could get out, plus my mom was in town until yesterday).  He has a garage just a bit further up the alley and he didn't touch it (he didn't shovel most of the sidewalk in front of his house either - lazy POS).  So I guess he was trying to back up the alley into his garage and got stuck sideways basically in front of his garage.  Had to get a tow truck to pull him out.

had to do a double take because I'm moving to a house in Baltimore next week that has that exact setup, lmao. End of group house on alley with concrete pad and people with garages up the alley. Hope this isn't a common theme

i was busting my ass shoveling basically all day Sunday to avoid this exact problem while this lazy mf'er did NOTHING.  Then he's able to get his car even into the alley because of my work this evening but proceeds to get stuck (blocking the rest of the alley) trying to back into his little garage.

sounds like right in front of the garage is a good place to dump snow for next time

Man, Norfolk area snow lovers living the good life!  They got that 12" storm last Feb and about 17" for the winter which blew away central MD's paltry total last year.  Now they're looking at another 8-12" storm.  Last weekend's storm here with 6.5 snow then some sleet was the most since 2019, but I wish we could get a 8-12 all snow here.

So, jogging around CoCoRaHS site yesterday and today to check my records (all basically stored there since 2007, all previous is on paper and a chore to look thru, I need to spend a day and place them somewhere electronically) and found this gem from 2014- an incredible event.

Got the same feeling for Georgetown. Campus is pretty well cleared but all the streets leading in are straight slush.

My girlfriend is at Georgetown Law and I honestly think if city public and private schools are open, you all should be too. Probably should’ve been open on Wednesday, tbh. But not mad- just jealous. Enjoy your virtual classes!

Meh zoom classes on a Monday are cool. Day 4 of zoom classes, espicially w/ labs and stuff, suck

MCPS is 100% going to be closed tomorrow. The real question is, do they open Monday? lol.

HoCo is the same way. If they are waiting for sidewalks to be clear, we won't have school until Spring. At this point just open up and whoever can make, makes it. Can't believe some of the wealthiest counties in the country can't figure out virtual school for situations like this. I understand giving kids a day or two of a "snow" day to have fun, but there needs to be a better plan for these extended breaks. Its like they didn't learn anything from covid.

Controversial, but my back is kind of glad we miss out this weekend :oldman:

It does seem weird what is happening with the plowing situation. I don't remember it ever going down like it has.. Is that just because of the 10 feet of sleet and the resulting depleted uranium coating? Day 1 I could shovel fine.. day 2 I switched to smash and remove mode.. day 3, c4

From a brief check at archived DCA temps, it's been very rare since 2016 to see significant snow and extended sub-freezing temps:

1/13/19 (10in) - temps above freezing rest of week
1/6/25 (7in) - temps above freezing rest of week
1/3/22 (7in) - one day of below freezing temps
2/1/21 (5in) - temps above freezing rest of week

Compared to this event where we haven't breached freezing since the event and are not forecast to till next week, at least a full seven days.
