16.2 for the high, 0.7 for the low. Temp is 6 now altho falling fairly quickly so might get below zero before midnight. First day in a week that I didn't get any snowfall. Got a report that mid-lake at Deep Creek the ice is 8-10" thick and in the coves, over a foot thick. Doesn't appear as tho I'll go above freezing for the next two weeks at least. The ice fishing shanties are appearing and think I'm going to watch Grumpy Old Men to get in the spirit lol.

Just came in from outside.  It's down to 11F already here NW of Vienna.  This may end up being the coldest night yet in this run.

Took a walk in our front yard on the crust.  Was cool hearing the "thud" of each step as the crust flexed with each step.  It didn't cave in though to my 250+ lbs.  Brought back memories of growing up in Ohio and trying to tread lightly on thin crust w/o breaking through.

Downtown Baltimore never fails to amaze me in terms of temperature. It’s currently 18 degrees. Barely dropped since the sun went down. I could drive 13 minutes away, just outside of the city to Catonsville where it’s already down to 12 degrees.

I understand why it happens, it’s just wild.

20 for the high and just 21 at DCA

Its not rare to get a 2-3 day shot like this or colder but 7 + days is rare and this might be coldest 10 day stretch since the immortal 1977

yeah - it's not the coldest per se, but the duration of the cold at our location is very very rare.

1977 was known for its duration more than daily records. There were a couple . I’ve always felt the Cold Sundays 1982 were incredible 7 day apart bitter blasts ; highs around 10 and lows at and below zero

my memories are of the 94 and 96 blasts (I was in late elementary school) - in the Shen Valley we got down to -10 to -15 during both of those events.

At midnight 16.0/7.1. NE wind 5 gusting to 11 mph. High was 28.3, we seemed to hit a spot between 1-3 pm where the clouds went to just high cirrus and winds calmed and we warmed up. Actually not a bad early afternoon. Still haven't seen a snowflake, although just 40 miles south Roanoke has reported a few hours of light snow.
