Took 1st measurement a little after 8am then did another one since temp was just over 32. Temps dropping now so compaction shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe this is spread out over longer but I think we definitely hit 6", good shot at the 7". Radar looks good for next couple hours maybe. I stand corrected, it is 6" in 12 hours (8" in 24). I think it had been up to 7" for a few years, but I might be crazy.

WestBabylonWeather
I’m eye balling about 4” in west babylon should end with about 5” we were 32.5 degrees most of the event. Had it been a couple degrees colder easily 6” at least

jbenedet
That looks like heavy snow in western queens/nassau right now. ~35 dBz Congrats. Don’t think any major metros up to Portland Maine have seen that this season.

Around 30-31 degrees. Nice big flakes coming down. Would be hard to see most places in NYC cracking 3". JFK will likely crack that amount. Laguardia would too because I think they had around 2 inches at 7 am

Picard
Overachiever on this one. A solid 6.1" at my house when the forecast was for 2-3". We must've gotten into some 1"/hour+ rates overnight because when I turned in at 11, there still wasn't much more than a heavy dusting.

At 7:00 am 2.4 at EWR, 1.7 at LGA and 2.6 at JFK. If it was once you let it go but it's all the time. Maybe they should just stop and make LGA the official measurements in NYC or actually get a trained spotter near the Park to take them. I guess they just don't give a F. They weren’t that far off. I got 1.6 at 9am. I was surprised how much it melted or must have been melting. My guess is they’ll end around 2.1 to 2.

steve392
From looking outside, appears to be about 4" in little ferry. Started as rain last night. Took longer to finally accumulate.
NorthShoreWx
Wind kicked up and temperature quickly dropped below 30. The sights are awesome with 6" of snow blowing out of the trees. Also the lowest vis of the storm right now even when it isn't gusting. Probably less than 1/2 mile (moderate snow)

Krs4Lfe
Just measured 5" here in Bayside. Heaviest snow of the storm so far and coldest air, should prevent any more melting and aid in accumulation. JFK, EWR, and LGA must be past 3 by now, probably exceeding rates of 0.5" per hour. Dare I say that Central Park might get to 3" as well when this wraps up in an hour or so?

However at this point it has no relevance for any of the tri state area. North South East or west. Newark and JFK seem unaffected. Forecasts should verify there with about 3". In smaller events like these, sometimes their reporting is nearly half of what it is in the surrounding areas!
GaWx
20 minutes ago, mob1 said: 30 at the park now with snow continuing. I really hope this brings them to some semblance of a respectable number. Knowing them though, the final will probably be something silly like 1.3" The 1.1” at NYC was as of 7AM when it was having “light snow” (vis 1 mile). Since then, the vis dropped to 0.75 miles vis (still called light snow) at 8 AM followed by moderate snow at both 9AM and 10AM with only 1/2 mile vis. One would think they’ll have much more than 1.1” when this is done (shortly).

Looks like 2-4 will most likely be the outcome with some spots receiving more. Temps overperformed big time before. When I saw it hit 40 in central park I knew there was no way they'd cool down fast enough to have numbers like 4-5" verifying. Cpark needs an arctic antecedent airmass well below 32 for forecasts to verify now... 1
