A couple climate statistics for Allentown as we wrapped up August:

  • The average temperature was 70.0F, the coolest August since 2008.
    • Likewise the average minimum was 58.3F, the lowest since 2008.
  • The lowest minimum recorded was 45F, which is the lowest August min since 2000 (which tied with a min of 45). The next year that recorded a lower minimum in August is 1986!
  • 1.6" of precip fell, which is the driest August since 2008.

13 of the 19 current Chester County stations recorded their driest August on record. Of note those stations have less years with data. That said on average it appears this to be the 3rd driest August since 1893 across our fair county. The driest such months occurred in 1896 and 1943.

Picked up 0.43" from 2 rounds (0.34" + another 0.09" later).  Will take it!  Last rain here was 0.10" on August 20th. :yikes:

Had bottomed out at 61 and got up to 83 yesterday.  The humidity was clearly felt though.

Currently 66 with dp 65.

OT but glad the Iggles came through on game 1 (even with the lightning delay) because Dallas sucks!

Most spots picked up some much-needed rainfall last night. Amounts ranged between as little as .09" at the Nottingham to as much as 0.90" at Glenmoore. We have the chance at some more rain and storms with a strong cold frontal passage tomorrow into Sunday. Today and tomorrow look like our last chance to touch the 80's for a while with higher humidity to add to the summer feel to the days. We turn much chillier again by Sunday with temperatures by Monday struggling to escape the 60's for highs across the higher ridges in the area. Overnight low temperatures will again reach the 40's in many spots by early next week.

What’s up with the thick haze today? It doesn’t look like any Canadian wildfire smoke is nearby.

I think it might be smoke from Canadian wildfires that rotated around the large closed low centered just north of the Great Lakes.
