How is your annual deficit so much? I'm around 20"-21" and my deficit is only a little over 1"

Hey...power finally back on and air conditioning running at full blast.  What a crazy 24 hours!  Looks like many of us experienced wild weather yesterday.  Fortunately, this afternoon's precip was not a repeat of yesterday.  I recorded 0.27" from a band of heavy showers that quickly moved through around 3:30pm.

To answer your question...the reason my deficit is higher is because my annual precipitation is 48".  This comes from NCDC and the data is from a coop station that I used to live just 0.25 miles from for 8 years from 2011-2019.  The station is co-located at our water treatment plant for portions of Carlisle.  So, this is a 30-year average for this location.  I know it seems anomalously high, but I'm pretty sure their data is reliable.  So, half of 48 is 24, minus 2.5 = 21.5.  I can tell you that before this event my deficit was close to 5" at the half-way point of the year.

Looks like a little under an inch here. Glad to see the southern end of the county take the brunt this time. The place hit hardest was really Perry County, with basically the entire county seeing 2-4”.

1.66 of rain in Marysville today.

We need a few weeks with minimal rain to dry everything out.

Here in June in Chester County PA finished with an average temperature across the county of 71.9 degrees. This was the 26th warmest June since records began in 1893. Of note 19 of the 25 warmest June months occurred prior to 1980. Below is the climate summary by Station for June 2025.

A beautiful stretch of weather is underway for the 4th of July holiday weekend! Today will be our warmest day until Sunday. We should see highs today in the mid 80’s. We cool a little tomorrow to slightly below average temperatures for the 4th of July with our highs in the lower 80’s. Our next chance of rain looks to arrive by Tuesday evening.

Happy 4th of July to all of you!
It should be an outstanding day for all of your outdoor activities with family and friends. Several of our colder spots had low temperatures this morning in the pleasant 50's. Tonight we should see even more spots reaching the 50's for lows by morning. Today we will see much of the day with temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's - this is a couple of degrees below normal for the 4th of July. We start a slow warming
trend tomorrow with our warmest day looking to be Monday with highs into the upper 80's. Still no 90 plus days in our future...in fact in looking at some of the longer-range models we might not see such a day through at least July 20th! The weather gets a bit unsettled with some shower chances almost each day of
the new week - although no wash outs!

Happy 4th again! Below is an analysis of our climate here in Chester County for Independence Day. As you can see overall in our 132 years of weather records back to 1893 we have seen an overall slight cooling of our high temperatures and a slight warming of our low temperatures. Not surprisingly our average temperatures on the 4th of July have remained mighty constant with no warming or cooling on average over the last 13 decades of weather observations.
