Intensewind002
New advisory has storm down to Cat 1: 95 mph, 960 mb, headed nnw at 9 mph. I don't think I've ever seen a storm initialized with that intensity before, unless it was a glitch....
tim123
Oh but is it a reliable report? Some people just wanna act smarter than they are. Nothing against you I believe it. Just saying some people are just goofy.

Is a similar chain of events happening here? I remember being on this very board (it actually might've still been Eastern at that point) and there started being reports of levee failures in some of the more susceptible wards. This was a pre-Twitter world, but I remember starting to see reports of this on the news late that night.
jac_not_in_dc
If that backbuilding keeps hanging on, that's a whole lot more water into the areas just south of Lake P.

It was just a position update, not a full advisory where wind speeds are specified in knots, so no reason it couldn't be done, I guess.

jac_not_in_dc
That NNW movement (rather than NNE) is bringing some of that train of moisture that's been heading into Mississippi closer to Lake P.

That is the type of report that can indicate a possible mass casualty event--I hope that doesn't occur. And, let's be clear, being trapped in your attic and drowning is not a peaceful way to go. It's one of the most traumatic and painful ways a person can die. When you actually think about what some people are going through *right now* as you read this.. it's tragic. And that situation is occurring in several areas. 2

thunderbird12
Over 1,000,000 power outages in Louisiana now, and outages starting to climb (40,000+) in MS as well. KMSY is reporting again after a 2+ hour hiatus. Wind gusts to "only" 55 mph (after several hours of hurricane-force gusts) on the 11:15 PM ob. Hopefully that trend continues, since the wind needs to abate help the ongoing rescue efforts. The original eye is nearly gone on radar. Looks like Ida's time as a hurricane is finally about done. jac_not_in_dc
A whole lot of bad stuff happening in a whole lot of places. There'd better not be any reporters standing in the French Quarter tomorrow saying "Well, it doesn't really look that bad here."

lilj4425
Wonder how bad this is going to affect the oil refineries down there? ConocoPhillips has a big one in Alliance that is now underwater. I live in Upstate SC and most of our gas comes from the Colonial Pipeline. Yikes. 2
