Yeah, I would say banter separate from COVID, I like looking at pics from Iceland and don't really want to scroll through a bunch of COVID crap to be honest.

I concur. I feel strongly that people should be able to express their opinions. While the situation might be different in other subforums I think the COVID discussions are relatively friendly. I don’t mind reading what people are saying but  it would be nice to have more of a choice on when I want to read it if I want to read other banter instead.

The issue is that it’s washing out other discussions. We have no issues opening a new thread for a specific storm or weather topic for more focused discussion - the same should apply here.

That being said that’s just my opinion, from my perspective, and I would hope the people who post here in the forum much more often than myself have more of a weighted decision on the topic at hand.

A follow up to the UMass vaccination mandate implemented yesterday... anyone not vaccinated is placed on immediate unpaid leave starting on Monday.  There's no submission of evidence for in state residents, apparently they already have it in a database.

Anyway, I respect the rights of employers to do what they want... decisions have consequences on both sides...

Local Walmart 75% masked and they have a "greeter" now stationed in the lobby again last couple visits I can tell they are just itching for the word go to inforce the mask policy again. Also no cash accepted for the last month due to "coin shortage".

Walmart 8 miles further out in the country has yet to say they have a coin shortage, and about 30% masked.

lol, really? or is this the continued push for electronic currency and more govt overreach.

It's never going to be purely informative or constructive.  There are far too many differing viewpoints, opinions, and beliefs in what the truth is.  Many just can't purely post about information without interjecting their emotions towards others viewpoints.  This stems from how long some have been interacting with each other over the better part of 2 decades.  Phin, while new to this subforum, has been around for a long time and has a strong opinionated view that conflict with others and there is no rule against other members from other subforums from posting in here if they so choose.  I've wanted to keep this dicussion as apolitical as possible but it's clear that's not going to occur.

If you're all of the belief that we should have this discussion continue moving forward, what would you like to see/not see from a moderating perspective?  We've become pretty loose but some stuff clearly crosses the line for some.

It's really simple, respect other's opinions and don't act like a little kid and name call.

Why should we respect opinions that are not based on actual science/data?

Just because one person doesn’t like another’s opinion doesn’t mean it doesn’t have validity. Put 10 PhDs in a room and you can find 10 opinions  on something. We have knock down drag outs at science conferences all the time over data interpretation and we’re all looking at the same thing. Science is messy.
And I hardly think the mods on this site have any expertise to parse out what’s valid or not. It’s a discussion thread.

Correct but to call a vaccine poison of that it causes autism and Alzheimer's is a joke.

that’s complete bs.

there are established facts in science, and there are established facts about covid.

opinions based on lies are completely worthless.

This is why we can't have nice things. Some of us love the covid banter. Then the seagulls show up and name call.

The regulars can have a constructive debate.

Where is the line between covid banter and far right drivel?

Just read over it. Don’t like someone, put them on ignore. I have several on ignore including that trixy person. She’s a vile name caller. The stuff she posts is what needs to be moderated. DIT saying vax causes dementia is stupid, but it’s not nasty and vile.
And it might be far right drivel to you, but what sone people post here is far left drivel to me.  It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

and what would you do?

i’d keep the cringe-worthy covid disinformation that this thread churns out 24/7 out of the public view wx-side, for starters.

what an embarrassment that crap is to the scientists who post here.

look, I'm not going to debate you or anyone here about "opinions based on science/data" because no debating will change anyone's opinions. IMO, mandating/forcing and giving people altimatum's about vaccination is wrong and should 100% be a choice. Don't waste time responding to further debate or bait me with follow up questions. This is solely my opinion, regardless of the science and I thought would be respected on a forum like this. Evidently not.

99% of her posts are designed to elicit a response-hence the 5th grade name calling routine.     It's the shitck of a housebound person with no life outside of trolling people on several message boards...

The "far right drivel" more often that not turns out to be true, about 2 years later when the NY Times prints a retraction on page 56 in small writing.

If Trump hadn't called this the WuFlu and Chinese flu we'd be getting to the bottom of the Wuhan lab leak. Instead we play the ignore game because it came out of trumps mouth. Imagine if Trump had told everyone to put on a mask....
