That's why you can't get attached to exact model forecast rainfall amounts in unusually convective set ups like this. Heaviest rainfall totals are lining up closer to the better convection near the coast.

Through 8 am, the ongoing storm has dumped 1.00" or more rain across parts of the Middle Atlantic region. Other parts of the region have seen lower amounts, especially parts of northwestern New Jersey and southeastern New York.

At 1009 AM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Woodbridge, or
near Shelton, moving northeast at 45 mph.

Pea size hail is possible with this storm along with heavy rainfall.

Locations impacted include...
New Haven, Waterbury, Meriden, Milford, Middletown, Wallingford,
Shelton, Naugatuck, Wolcott, Hamden, Cheshire, North Haven, Seymour,
Cromwell and Orange.
