Gotta love these last second high reward storms. This one def juiced up more as it approached. These intense frontogenic bands are def ripping by the Quad Cities. Rates here near Peoria have picked up now. Medium size flakes. But overall dendrites have lacked here with mostly pixie dust. Temps are more marginal for good accumulations. Congrats to you guys north! Def jealous

Pure rippage out there right now.  With these big fatties raining down on a consistent basis, our LSRs are likely above 10:1, which is likely contributing to these higher totals than expected.  It's a regular dendrite fest out there lol.

Measured over 5" a half hour or so ago.  First warning criteria event in the bag.

Some quick picks in the backyard.

Let's hope this isn't the only good snowstorm you have this winter, after the disappointment of last winter.  Winter 2015/2016 was a complete joke thanks to El Nino.

Yeah I think we'll have plenty more high quality events this winter.  Although for me personally, this one will be hard to top with the way that it overachieved at the last minute.  One of the local TV mets was poo-pooing this event all day yesterday on the radio, saying maybe a half inch lol.  He's going to be hearing it from viewers today.  Good chance parts of the QC get 9"+.

Haven't measured in awhile, but guessing at least 7" now.

Glad to see a thread with a little action for a change.  Hard to fathom the incredible totals to the SW of here in the jackpot zones, perhaps this could be a trend to watch moving forward to the next marginal event.  IMBY thermals are looking terrible in order to get any true accumulations, with ground/asphalt temps well above zero I'm expecting little need for a serviceable event.

Wow, cyclone, you hit it big with this system!  The sneaky overachievers are always nice, help balance out the ones that fade or bust.

Yep, events like these are definitely the ones we have to remember when things go the other way.

Was thinking whatever we got from this system would be long gone by the time the cold hit Wednesday, but with what could be nearly 10" of snow today I highly doubt that will be gone by then.  Especially with forecast temps of 39/37 Mon/Tue.

Looks like at least 8" or so now.  Heaviest snows should wind down in about an hour or so, but a few more hours of light snow after that.

Waiting for the snow to move in.  The Temperature here is 38° and the reading at the airport is 36° the DP is 25° so that should bring down the temperature once the snow starts here. Also with the later start time the snow should continue until after sun set and that should add to the total (if we can get the temperature down) on the other hand it has not been below freezing here since November 23rd so the ground is still “warm”
