That would get old fast.  The daily talk would be as to what time the fog burns off..."hey folks! it's early today, we're going to torch to 72 instead of 70!"

I can remember the same thing here for how boring the winter 01-02 weather was. At least I got in a record amount of winter bicycle riding on the Long Beach boardwalk that year. I was really happy when that drought finally began to end heading into the fall that year.

Remember it well.  Labor Day '02 had the first of several noreasters that month and we were off and running....

@NWSChicago It's because I bought a $1,200 snowblower this year. You're welcome

Opposite for me. Got this house April 2015 and refused to buy a snowblower. Neighbors kept telling me to buy one. Two years in a row massive blizzards.

I know as soon as I get one it wont snow for years.

Burlington, VT has my vote for the most impressive daily warm records in February. How often do you see a new monthly high temperature record get set only to get beat by nearly 10 degrees just a few days later.

NWS Burlington Feb 23
@MattCrawford yep. we did top out at 63F. historic day :) will issue record summary later this afternoon.

the only things exciting about 2002 were the April heatwave, the hot summer and the prelude to 2002-03, one of our best winters, that made us forget all about 2001-02 (well mostly lol.)

I know, that might be the most amazing thing I've seen this month.

I can't think of another place that ever beat their monthly maximum temperature by 10 degrees. Jumping from 62 to 72 for a new monthly high is off the charts.

Yeah on Sat when we reached 72F up here it snowed 6 hours later (although no real accumulation). Either way that was just ridiculous.

The mild and snowy February got the seasonal snowfall close to average for your area like the blizzard did for us back on the 9th.

If we had more continental cold air, this would be a great combo for bombogenesis- this is exactly why we've been getting big snowstorms in warm winters, Chris.  However, there has to be at least marginally cold air around lol.

I wonder what this might mean for tropical season though, as long as a weak el nino or lesser develops, we might have a busy tropical season with these kind of SSTs.

The AMO ramped back up to near record levels over the last year along with the spike in Atlantic hurricane season activity as we headed into the fall.

That's surprising then, usually a warm signal from the AMO signifies more atlantic side blocking? Maybe there is a lag.
