Spring/Summer 2016 Photo Thread

Recommended Posts

We did this last year with some success, but it eventually fell apart as the board membership went AWOL during the non-weather months.

Post your pics of woo storms, DC severe, flowers, wildlife, fireworks, trips to the hills, boating, crabbing, etc. I bet the crabbers on the board could post some great early morning pics on the water. And yes, I want to see your pics of opening day snowfall. Sure looks like April will be amazing! ;)

Great thread. It already has some beautiful photography in it. I need to get a new phone here soon. I'll have lots of sun up shots from the Chesapeake. Hopefully lots of big crab shots, too. The boat is a great place for cloud viewing as well.

Not about competition at all. And great pic....I'm excited that the scaffolding is coming off the dome. It's a shame it won't all be down until inauguration.

I know :)

This was one of my favorite threads last year. Hopefully we get great pics this year.

You take great pictures. I've seen some of the stuff you've posted. Seems like everyone here post good stuff.

I'm just on my iPhone. Hopefully I can get some lightning and damage pics this warm season. There's a beautiful world out there. I love it.

You're just trying to get all of the old creepy dudes fired up

Some weird fetishes around if they are aroused by pools :P

Peak blossoms have come and gone. Really didn't want to hit up the tidal basin this year, but did. For some reason I thought I'd be missing out on something if I didn't go. That, of course, was not the case. Might be the last time I go....seems like once you've done it a few times you're really not going to see anything new. This year was the third straight for me and the crowds end up making it an unpleasant experience. And I'm not someone that has a problem with crowds. Read stories of people arriving as early as 3:30 am to get a spot for parking and to stake out a good tree for pics. That's crazy....really not worth arriving 3.5 hours before sunrise. When I was walking around downtown DC last Saturday everything was a CF in the Washington monument, Lincoln memorial and tidal basin area. Kudos to the traffic cops for having patience to deal with people that just do what they want to do. And LOL at the lines to get into some of the museums.

Anyway, tulips are now going strong in many areas.....my personal fav spring flower. It's a shame they don't bloom longer.

Are nice shots. Spring in DC is one of the main highlights of living here. I've been struggling more and more with enjoying living here over recent years but spring is always magical. I've found myself wandering with the dog longer than normal the past few weeks just to soak it all up... and that's just around the neighborhood. Though I must admit my street is silly with different types of flowering trees and such.

Didn't make it to the Tidal Basin for a second year in a row.. honestly not sure I missed anything tho I do always still feel a pang or two of regret since it's only a few days a year. The whole thing is not that fun though, during or after. I keep pushing that one year they should only allow DC residents in for a day.. which well sorry to the rest of you. :P Don't worry it'll probably be a windy and rainy day.

The DC resident day idea is a good one, bit one that'll never pass. I can only imagine how much money is brought in on a busy day during the festival. I saw lines for the air n space museum that had to be at least an hour long. Crazy amounts of people.

Here's a few.  No post-processing other than cropping and reducing the resolution for posting here.  I don't have any tulip photos, sorry Mappy!...but there are a couple of places nearby that have tulip beds blooming that I might have to check out soon before they're gone.

Cherry blossoms:

Daffodil (I actually had to hold the base of the stem out of the photo to get this close-up, due to the breeze):

Robin (what says spring more than a robin!):

Last week, I visited Assateague and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. This is a great time of the year to visit both because of the lack of crowds and also the lack of bugs. I also used my time at both places to test out my new telephoto lens.
