wonder how far into April you go?

If the first half of March can be prolific for snow, then we might be able to get into the first week or so of April with a lot of cover in the interior hills...but you still need to avoid a big warmup. I remember how fast 2005 melted at the end of March and first couple days of April with a torch...over 20 inches of high water content pack went fairly quickly.

That's not my point.

It's the reason they throw sand on the roads in the dead of winter. Salt lowers the freezing point allowing snow to melt at cooler temps. But sand allows more solar radiation to be absorbed, thus creating a shallow layer of warm enough temp to melt snow/ice. High sun angle and black top/dirty snow provide the same general idea.

My driveway is still pretty much ice covered (and snow now)

I am sure some melted but less than I can determine visually

Well forested areas and what not are different. It's more of a reference to areas exposed to sun for a number of hours. Clearly a temp of 20F in this sun is different then a temp of 30F..but the solar insolation is strong despite temps. That's why we preach on having a high water content snow pack. It takes exponentially more energy to melt.

also the reason ski areas groom over the dreaded black holes, they spread like a disease. Not much dirty snow in my hood, mostly on the roadside, nice white look

People showing pack like guys whipping it out and comparing...lol

Easy there big guy

I mentioned no melting. Did I measure, no. I also wanted to show the whitening of the driveway

Was there some melting today? I am sure. This is not the deepest pack at all. I was actually surprised that the max I got to this winter was only 20-26" or so

Cialis FTW

7 year old daughter skied Smith Walton last night

Woot Woot I remember when you started her, time flys. Raising them right Dave, you are a good Dad even if you whip it out now and then. I liked your pic, would post mine but embarrassed compared to yourself, would not want anyone to get the wrong ideas.

"Big cold is my call this winter.  Snow should come too.  Epic is my call...one for the ages.  NNE will do extraordinarily well.  Not sure I buy the warm south of NYC.  I think the AO/NAO spends some negative time in the heart of winter.  But as long as the EPO holds we're getting frequent 3-6/4-8 type events but probably few if any blockbusters."

Did I say that? Well I missed the AO/NAO but was right about south of NYC. NNE needs some work to verify but overall I give myself A-.
