Here's the last decade or so here:

2000: 10/9

2001: 11/5

2002: 10/23

2003: 10/23

2004: 11/12

2005: 10/26

2006: 12/4

2007: 11/20

2008: 10/28

2009: 10/15

2010: 10/23

I think we'll have a shot around 10/28-29 this year but my gut says we'll wait until about 11/5

Looks like very light RA to SN showers.

http://www.wundergro...eq_statename=NA

Yeah that was a very cold early season airmass. We had a coating of snow out in Ithaca, NY during that cold outbreak. IIRC the Oct 26, 2005 storm was the one that blasted the mountains of VT/NH...we changed to snow at the end of that for a few hours but it didn't accumulate really. A few days later, the 10/29/05 storm happened where BOS got measurable.

Either way sounds good to me...a week or two away thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Please...Please let us not get a 2006. Disastah...I don't even remember '06-'07 very well. I was 12 but I didn't really follow wx as much as I do now. Did we get snow any other days besides 12/4? I know it was the second half that salvaged the winter.

LOL imagine that now with all the people on the board.

... but then the huge pattern change in January, with a massive arctic outbreak and historic comeback with snowfall February through April

That was the greatest 2-3 month period of skiing up here since 2000-2001... upper mountain picked up something like 200" after February 13th. I remember getting upsloped to death even in April (summit picked up 6 feet in April for a record). Those were the days we'd go to sleep with a forecast for snow showers and 1-3", then wake up and find 8" overnight in the parking lot. Rinse and repeat.

The St. Patty's Day storm in '07 was also one of those storms that wasn't all that impressive in northern VT at first glance... the synoptic storm left something like 12-14" (solid storm but nothing too ridiculous), but then I remember upslope for like 2 straight days after that storm passed. Strong NW winds and we picked up two feet of fluff after the synoptic snow. The storm total ended up being like three feet in 72 hours for that one. It just wanted to snow after February 13th that year.

I got about 2" at 385' on 10/26/05, followed by an ugly winter. In 2000 I had 6.3" on 10/29-30, followed by a super winter. The mts got 10-15" in the 10/10/00 storm (I had only slushy drops), with much tree damage as about half the leaves were still on-board. The next week I had footing problems in the woods - only time I encountered aspen leaf litter covering/hiding significant snow. Some of those same places got over a foot in the later Oct storm - Long Falls Dam had over 2' for the month, their snowiest Oct on record.

If the 06z gfs is to be believed, I'll see flakes next Friday, and might even begin the deer season Saturday on white. I give the first a 1-in-3 chance, the 2nd 1-in-20. However, I'd guess 2-in-3 I'll see flakes before Nov 1.

Edit: April 2007, mmmmm, 37.2". Only the 15" last April Fools enabled the sum for all the other 12 Aprils IMBY to equal that one month. Farmington had 36.1", about a foot higher than their next best April, records back thru 1893.
